I hope to install a locking hub on the rear so we can all have turf mode. The next step is to find a locking hub that will fit the splines on the axle. Anyone that wants to help me research this , please do.

This is going to require a little machine work but I think its doable!

Looked into this awhile back there was a model of Kawasaki that had a hub in one side you could unlock . Was a mid 80s model

This is pretty much what my plan is , but the locking hub splines need to match the axle spines from the Pioneer. I also need to find a locking hub that is readily available, I doubt you could even find one of the Kawasaki hubs they used on this 3 wheeler.

Adapting the locking hub to the pioneer "should be" easy , finding the proper locking hub with the same splines ,not so easy!

Does anyone know what the spline count is on the axles ? Until my parts are delivered, I don't have a clue. It seems like someone had mentioned they are 30 or 31 ?

I think you're going to find that this works when turning away from the driving wheel, but turning into it is probably going to dig up whatever as bad as the spooled rear end. Not to mention the handling problems.

Possibly, but I know my tractor doesn't tear up my lawn, there is only one wheel driving the rear unless I lock the other wheel in!!!

I just ordered a locking hub yesterday that I think will work. Its being shipped from California, so it will take a few days to get here. I also ended up ordering a new rear axle yesterday, I figured rather than get a used one , it would be nice to have a extra new one just in case!!!

Never heard of unlocking a hub on a sxs, much less a 3 wheeler. I gotta follow this thread. Interesting idea.

I just hope I can make it work. After looking everything over , looks like a custom axle may need to be made. The splines on the wheel hub end , are not long enough......... I need about 1.00" more of spline!!!

I can see where attempting this on a vehicle with a solid rear axle would probably be way easier than on an IRS vehicle. Not a lot of room to work with. I look forward to watching this.

I received the axle and manual locking hub and I'm happy to say , the locking hub splines match the axle splines perfectly. Now I need to figure out how I'm going to mate the locking hub to the wheel hub. I will keep you all updated on this as I get further in to it.
The locking hub is from a Kia sportage!!!!
