Under Hood Storage?

I am in need for a dry storage container that will fit under the hood for an electronic module. I have seen the drybox for the Big Red, but don't believe it will fit- any ideas? I do not want it to look out of place and be secure.

I wish the aftermarket products would step up quickly, or maybe Honda will be releasing one soon-

Thanks for your input!

What kind of elec. box you got?

I would like to fit a pelican box under there somehow.

Having a sound system installed. The digital panel and speakers are waterproof, but the "brain" needs to be mounted in a dry area. From what my installer said, there really isn't anywhere that would be deemed "waterproof or dry", therefore the need for additional storage. Thought maybe he could use a waterproof container that would attach to the quote "firewall" but I do like the idea of having some additional storage area for a few necessities.

I've tinkered around with the idea myself made a roof pattern of what would fit under the hood.

Roughly 13.75 wide x 10deep x 6.5 high

Been messing with a bed mount sprayer and the switch panel and haven't put any effort into it past a rough pattern.

Something about that size with the functionality would be perfect!

This was going to be my first project, but the time I put into the switch plate design, making a wiring harness for it and getting everything just right, as well as actually using it. Put the underhood storage project on the back burner.

Maybe in a few weeks when I have sometime I'll tinker with it.

Was looking today. Considered finding a removable plastic tool box that would nestle into a steel holding bracket. Maybe I will find some time....the cardboard template above helps to size things up.

There are two supports going across the bottom and back that could easily be utilized for support and stabilization, if a flange of some sort was made into/onto a box with those rough dimensions. The question is how to seal it WELL, make it accessible, and affordable, all at the same time.

I had thought about copying the lid design for a truck toolbox or a yeti type cooler as two considerations. If you slanted the front of the box you could extend it @2-3 more inches. Making a lid larger without having to remove it each time you needed to access it. Thought about maybe even finding a pelican case that size but those suckers are EXPENSIVE even with a corporate discount. Just depends on what I can come up with.

I'm in the process of making this storage box for my 700-4. I tried to take advantage of as much space as I could so the box is a little chopped up. I should've made it a little smaller and more shallow to make fabrication of the lid easier. I started out a little larger than it needed to be and just cut where it needed it so it would fit in and the hood would shut. The bottom is V shaped and it goes all the way up to the radiator shroud. It's about 9-10 inches deep in the V and about 4-5 inches on the flat part. I think I went a little overboard on the tiedown points but you can never have too many. Any suggestions on material for a water tight seal for a lid would be appreciated. For now I left a drain hole in one corner and I'm just going to throw a non water proof lid on it to keep most of the mud out. If I had the time to make a few extras, painted and complete with lid of course, wonder what kind of price I could get out of them.

pipefighter577,
Welcome to the community. Love the offering of your first post. Seems you already been moving on adding your own accessories.
Ya, I think you should add a few more tie downs. lol. But hey, you dont want it falling out thats for sure.
A somewhat water tight lid would do well. I dont know about 100% water tight but just some rubber weather stripping, laid over the sides. Then you can just hinge a flat lid to lay on it. With a few good bungees to hold it down. Maybe pop riving the tubing so it stays. Just a idea.
As for selling them. Would want to see a final product. With out a lid.. IDK, With a water prof lid maybe $200-300+. Looks like alot of room in there.

Cant wait to see the final product.
Thanks for sharing.

Someone posted on "another Honda SxS forum" that UTV tech is working on a box for the under hood area as we speak.

Having the time to do things like this is the hardest part for me. Glad you like it man. I'll try to post pics when I get it completed, hopefully sooner than later.

I'm sure they'll make it out of molded plastic which would be much nicer I think. I'm seriously considering getting a plastic welding gun for things like this. There's quite a bit of room under the fender supports on either side that would be nice to take advantage of but you wouldn't be able to just slide the box in and bolt it. You'd have to take the whole front end apart to install it. I guess you could make a two piece box but then you'd have another joint to worry about keeping sealed.

I have my pioneer at UTV Tech and they are using it to measure for several upcoming products that they will be making for sale. One of the things they are working on is a under hood storage box as well as skid plates and a arm guards. I think within 2 weeks they will have some things designed and built for the pioneer.
