I am currently looking at a 2016 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 with standard trim package with 2100 miles. I have called the dealer with the VIN number and recalls and standard maintenance have been done on schedule. It doesn't come with any accessories and the front tires are bald from driving on road between farms. Per the owner it's whole life has been farm work but I haven't seen it in person to look at skid plates and if caked with mud or not.

What do you guys think fair value is? Is $14500 too much? Any concerns with buying the first model year?

I'd say for another 5-6K you could probably get a new one (if you find inventory)

Yeah, I have a quote from dealership for $20,500 with windshield and roof.

I was just trying to figure out what point it would be a good deal before I got into serious negotiations. $13,500? $12,500? $10,000?

In today's market with all service done and recalls complete 14500 is a decent deal. I would push closer to 12. You will need tires and possibly want wheels and a at least a windshield and roof. Is it deluxe or base?

I would push for 12. That would be a really good deal in this economy. 14 isn't bad. But you will spend probably $400 on cheap tires. Probably $1200 on a roof and windshield.

The biggest recall to look for is the oil passage cover that directs oil onto the clutches, the seat heat is a joke, it doesn't work, the only other thing I can think of is the steering box knuckle, that's a 10 minute fix but the Dealer ship has to do it. My 16 has been very good to me after the clutches and oil passage cover was replaced, got a little over 4,000 trail miles on ours, not road miles. Happy trails!

Well, if it were my dollars.....consider, roof is about $600 now (Honda roof) a decent windshield probly $500, a set of tires (just tires) around $500-$600 maybe you can find a take off set and save some coin. If the machine is mint then yeah 12K ish is ok nowadays. If not, like I said......another few K and you can have a new one. Also, you can't really buy olive green panels to match the hood of the 16', they don't make'm anymore (real hard to get) if you wanted to.

If you see the machine in person and love it, negotiate and hey.........the 6K-8K you saved will buy a lot of accessories 😉 😂😂😂

When I was shopping and bought mine waaay back in the Spring of 2020, I wouldn't have paid much over $10K for a '16. That's how much the market has changed in the past year and a half. I still can't see 14K, but I'd guess working around 12 is probably where you're at right now.

@MadcoHokie when I bought my Olive Green ( I prefer Army Green) 16’ base, I paid $14,599 for it Before tax. being this is still all base, Id offer the guy CASH in hand 12k And just thank him for doing all the warranty updates. That was all free and needed to be done No cost to him. you have some tires that need to be replaced As well. even todays market, thats fair for a plain Jane. Then u can save the money you saved for accessories. theres alot not much difference in a 16’ than a 21’ thats not worth getting upset about.

As for the green deluxe plastics, I have one of those very rare and prized possessions you cant and will never find Unfortunately. That said, there are stickers for the doors if u want to keep it the same, wrap it or u can buy all new plastics of any other color fairly cheap.

So, we can say $12K all we want, but the seller may still pull $14K for it. Everything's a mess. I just sold a 2008 snowmobile for $3700 that I would have asked $2700 for two seasons ago.

Consider this approach. Figure what the top dollar you are willing to pay*. Put a few thousand less than that, in 100 dollar bills, in your pocket. Stash the balance between that and up to your high limit, split in two bundles in a pocket or wallet. If you decide you want it, present the minimum amount in cash money as you make your offer. A wad of green can be very effective.

Disclaimer: Except when at the dealership when picking up a new one nowadays. They know they can sell it to a whole list of people waiting.

$14,500 is not a bad price in this market. It's a personal choice.

Do you want to save some money on a used unit that will do everything a new one will do for less money or do you want to wait an unknown period of time and pay full retail for a new one? It's up to you.

If you're okay with this one offer $12k as others have suggested. The dealership won't accept it but perhaps they'll counter with $13,000. If the dealer won't lower the price try demanding a Honda 2-piece poly windshield and roof, both installed.

The other one fell through as he wouldn't take $12K.

What do the guys think of this one for $16.5K

Bought a brand new 0 miles 2018 P1K5 Deluxe for $13,748 OTD 2yrs ago. This market is crazy but no way a base 2016 model is worth more than $10k
