This is my first one. Company tried blaming me. I didn’t even notice until they sent me the picture and tried to deny my refund.

I have taken mine apart many times and there is a hex shaped rod #8 that transfers motor movements to the gears on the opposite side! Now pay attention to #5 which sits on the end of the hex shaped rod. It should fit into #4 which sits on the motor side! My guess is if you remove or loosen screws #19 from the two rods #10 which hold the two half’s of the winch together you will be able to verify they are fitting together correctly. If they are mount the bottom of the winch to mounting plate using bolts #21 and after all 4 have been started then you can tighten the top.

I would be very surprised to hear that there is a bent shaft at the end of the motor causing this, my guess would be rods #10 are to tight;)

I emailed Warn last night and they responded back this morning with this:

"When we assemble our ATV winches, we attached a long screw that hold the drum supports together at the bottom. Notice the hole on the protector plate with the date stamp? This is used for installation. The winch is going to have some flex to it if the screw is not there."

Problem was the gasket (3) and alignment ring (2) were not seated properly. Good to go now. However as in tightening it down. The same hole feels like it wants to strip again. It’s the front one closest to the power cables. All the others tighten just fine. That on as I’m tightening it, I can feel it get snug, but it feels if I put more pressure it won’t get snugger, it feels like it’s fonna strip it. So I stopped while it’s snug. Never had this many issues with winches before.

Thought about tightening it down and see if it does. Then put a helicoil in it or go bigger. Or just leave it like it is

Not a nut on theirs, it’s threaded into the housing

Both my Warn 4000 and 4500 has a steel nut vs the aluminum threaded.

I was thinking the same thing about the changing the nut. This one is strange.

Apparently the threaded rod that holds it together was missing. All good now. This is what the bottom looks like
