The Z71 2500 HD I traded in on this Ford was worse. But honestly, all 4 wheel drives suck anymore. The old true 4 wheel drive like the Scouts rocked.
My Toyota FJ Cruiser was pretty good. I had a hitch cover that said, Remove to recover Jeep.
My Jeep buddies didn’t like it. And when they were stuck, they would never call me to come pull them out. It was crazy good in snow, go with snow up to the bonnet.
I had Goodyear Duratracks on it.

I had one of those too, equally pathetic IMO, except old Toyota Land Cruisers.

I had one of them too. A ‘74 . That was a tank.
The new one was good, but you gotta have tires. Well that goes for any 4x4. I have the new TA’s on my Tundra. Seem good. Not the noise of the old ones.
It’s not your trucks fault. It’s your tires. :)

Well, to be sure the stock Michelin’s are street tires, but you need to look at my photo again, the frame is on the ground in the front, the rear passenger wheel was in the air. No 4x4 was getting out of that, regardless of tires.

Unfortunately 4 wheel drive vehicles don’t have front lockers, including your fj.

Just yanking your chain.
Oh I know, I’m not sure a front locker would even have gotten me out, surely would have helped. The worst part was being alone, I had to put the truck in neutral and the tractor had to do all the work....had some one been in the truck to put it in gear and help, it would have been out much sooner. There’s no cell service out there and I really thought for a time that I was going to be walking out.

Just yanking your chain. New road and snow not a good combo makes the ground rotten. Now if had a hard packing rain that would have been different.
I was on another property I have back in January, in about 8-10” of snow and pulling just a slight (6-8%???) hill and the wheels just spun to a stop. I was very pissed. Now part of that was the Michelin street tires it came with to be sure, but a front locker would probably have gotten me through.

The trucks new so I’ve got to get my 50K miles out of those tires, but when they get replaced, it will be a much more aggressive tread.

I have had to walk out a couple of times. Wrong tool for the job. Need a winch on that big thing . Heres what I use on those dirt roads.

I just roll around in my Altima daily. My hunting/fishing/towing truck is a 2010 Z-71 crew cab. It sits most of the year in the shop. No more new vehicles for me or vehicle payments ever again.

You can buy and install one.
If we had his money, we all would have H1 Hummers’ to get around in mud. :D
You guys in Kansas probably have trucks like Alberta. High lifts, most factory, can’t get them here. But diesel and lockers all round. One guy said he had to get to the well when frost was coming out of the ground. Double turbo. That was a nice truck. :)
