That barge incident was 60 miles north of me. Another concern was the I-40 bridge. It was already knocked out by a barge several years ago killing several people as cars flew off of it.

Today there would be too much environmental crap to do anything like that.BTW - Most people don't realize this, but the Arkansas River constitutes a navigable route for heavy barges (McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System), all the way to the Mississippi River and down to the Gulf of Mexico. There are a series of locks that have been constructed to allow circumvention of several dams on the river. The Port of Catoosa, near Tulsa, OK is used to ship goods from land-locked Oklahoma to the rest of the world. Quite a remarkable feat of engineering, actually.
