You guys have any recommendations for both front and rear winches? Anyone using the Viper brand sold in our store? Any concerns using steel able as opposed to synthetic? Many thanks.

Synthetic only way to go.

I picked up the viper 4500 midnight because it was cheap, I use them a lot, have worn two ropes out each ($30 on Amazon for a seemingly quality replacement) and so far so good. Someone said it’s a warn design but I’m sure there are differences.

Use the Honda winch mount it’s extra but it’s best design and sets the winch in the correct place and angle. When you do have to replace the rope you can do it easier than the EMP which is my second choice (and the one I have)

The KFI puts the winch pulling at a 45degree angle off the top of the winch instead of flat off the bottom (mounting surface)

Viper 4500lb for rear. And warn axiom 5000 for front.

Definitely synthetic, and I've had great luck with both my Warn 4500's. Had one on the Viking, and now on the Pioneer. I will say, that new Axiom looks really cool. I'd have that except I'd already pulled the trigger on the one I have.

Which Warn models do you have?

I use a Super winch 4500S on homemade mount I like my winch EZ to get too + in winter I added a fairlead on bottom so my winch line to plow is vertical eliminating 90 degree turns.

what winch do you use?

Warn ProVantage 4500.

I plow snow, a lot of snow which means that the winch goes in and out a short distance a million times and the first year with a steel cable, I repaired it 6 times in 1 winter. With the synthetic cable, I have repaired it 1 time in 2 years.

I have the warn vrx 4500 synthetic. It has been awesome. At takeover I stood on dry ground and drug my pioneer through clay mud that was up to the winch fairlead. The mud was rolling over the top of the A Arms. I didn't have my phone for a pic but @my99svt watched it.

Synthetic is the only way to go, it's all I've used for 15 years. I'm not being a dick but if someone has a steel cable I refuse to hook it up. I make them do it themself. There is always a fray and I dont want anything to do with steel cables.

There are a lot of good winches out there. I wouldn't be afraid of the viper. Having some good rigging accessories is just as important as a good winch. Since you ride alone a lot you will want some good straps, a snatch block/pulley and a few clevis'.

+1
I have a tree strap, 15’ of 1” tree rope, a solid snatch block, and a big clevis at all times.
You just never know when you might need em.

Synthetic!! Don’t worry if the winch has steel on it as a steel cable version is often found at better buys. $25 Amazon synthetic is what I run and I’ve had zero issues with it. It’s an easy cheap swap. Also, I really like my top mount winch bumper. So I would suggest that route. Mine has had the superwinch terra 45 on it (amazon for less than $200) and it’s still going strong. $15 and you can add a wireless remote to any of them, which makes it extra nice!

Viper Max 4500 with synthetic. Used frequently. Buy the synthetic winch extensions from Amazon in 50 foot lengths for $25. Get a couple.... I made my mount but it is a copy of the Viper mount.

A 12 gauge plastic 100rd count shell box holds a tree saver, snatch block and 50 foot synthetic extension line and fits in the rear footwell with seats down. It bnb is a little wider and shorter than a standard ammo can.

Viper from here , your were there when I got stuck at take over . Drug it on its skidplate with no problem till tires could touch the ground. Synthetic is the only way to go.

Viper Elite [HASHTAG]#4500[/HASHTAG] on front and viper Max [HASHTAG]#4500[/HASHTAG] on rear, Both synthetic ropes. The main reason for synthetic for me is the energy that is stored in a steel cable under pressure is tremendous! When a synthetic rope breaks they normally just drop to the ground. A steel will whip back when snapped.
