Hey guys, is there a go-to definitive thread on installing a winch on the P5? I realize there are different variables for each install, but wondered if there was a sticky or a basic thread on the subject.

There are numerous ones on here, just search for them. Depends on your mount and winch, Honda mount, KFI mount, aftermarket bumper,. But they are all on here along with diagrams and recommendations on wiring. I have a KFI mount with superwinch Terra 3500, very easy to mount and came with wiring. I added a wireless controller.

I know there are several, was hoping for one main thread on the subject.

After looking at the diagram that came with mine, not sure how to utilize the accessory harness.

Planning on the solenoid mounted on the top rail, I guess.
Rocker switch next to transmission switch.
Corded remote receptacle next to 12v outlet (under reverse lever).

The accessory harness will be used to power the switch/solenoid. And I mounted my switch by the cupholder on drivers side so without using the remote you can stand outside and activate winch if needed. Has came in very handy.

Its easy actually. It just looks confusing.
Yellow circle is the contactor control wires. All should be considered HOT.
The white wire is a short wire at the contactor. It should be hooked to the black large post.

So to wire this [yellow].
You are just connecting all the green all wires together using the bullet connectors.
Then connect all the black wires together.

Finally. Combine the red wires and provide 12v power. Recomend key-on. 11d7d059965c94c02d8f082d383634cb

where it says ignition wire is where you wire the red's to the accessory harness. your accessory wire is the ignition on wire.

Yes.
By "ignition" wire they mean one that has power ONLY when the key is ON.

do I need a backing plate for the rocker switch or do you guys just cut out the dash to a certain rectangle so it fits tightly?

To connect the reds to the harness, do they crimp in or do I need to make a connector to plug in?

They make a connector that'll fit those ends. Also there is a pre-traced cutout on the backside of the dash for toggle switches.

Yeah, I phrased my question poorly; I'll pick up some connectors when I buy some battery cable (6 gauge?). I guess my plan is to use the provided battery cable to connect the solonoid to the circuit breaker, and new cable from there to the battery. Would like to put the circuit breaker near the battery, but putting it under the hood will keep it drier.

Thanks again to everyone for helping me!

The breaker protects the "upstream" wire. If you put it under the hood you have defeated the majority of its purpose. Put it as close to the battery as possible.

Thanks. This is why I share my thoughts: cause I don't really know what I'm doing!

I'll take another look back there. Seems like I've seen a couple of guys zip tie one back there someplace.
