I started this evening making protective plates for the front passengers. Let me know what you think please. This has been quite easy and I made these three pieces in less than an hour before I called it quits.

I started with some 24"x24"X1/4" UHMW

Here is one section that needs to be protected. It's on the bottom passenger side
2f047b8df4dbf3f4e3d0a2b11018294c

I mocked up some cardboard because it's cheaper than UHMW.

Turned out ok
2cbafe29ce0bfe9dcb03ea07582aa4d2

I need some input on how to connect it. Right now, I think I will use screws from the inside and screw them into the UHMW. What do y'all think? Can't glue it, nor do I want to do that. The UHMW is too thick for the plastic rivets.

Next panel is just above the first one I did.

Same story here, cardboard is cheaper

Here is what I will call finished.

I was going to bend it or take it higher but I'd like to leave it open so it's not a mud trap.

The last piece I made tonight goes over the checker board.
303dd47e4366cf90a3721f604bee4938

This one I had to bend. There's no way around this one, it will be a mud trap. If I mount it with screws, I can remove it easily but doubt I ever will.

Maybe I'll get the rest of it done tomorrow. I wish I could make it out of one sheet but I can't bend this stuff that much. I may scrap this idea and make it out of sheet metal and weld all 4 pieces together. Not sure yet. I like that the 4 separate pieces have "clean out" gaps where they meet though.

Here's all three pieces

That bolt has a large head and could have a lock nut in the wheel well side.

You may try forming one piece out of 1/8" thick aluminum for each side.. Use spray on bed liner as a finish and secure it with1/4" x 3/4" long carriage bolts using nylock nuts.

I had hopes for that with plastic but these angles meet at one point and come from different directions so there will be some cutting and over lapping if metal is used. It sounded too complicated for me when I could just weld all pieces together.

I hope this is a permanent addition but I'm sure a skilled fabricator will show me how this is done pretty soon. Who's the guy with the blue custom P500? I need him to help me form some metal.

That is exactly why I was thinking, but couldn't think of the name for them. Could heat em up a bit to melt skid just enough to sit flush.

I've been too busy with other stuff lately but finally got around to finishing the passenger side.

It over laps in this area so no stick can squeeze through.
A34e9f996d1520fe6b7a6f1d8bb1468f

I left a crack here so I can clean it out.

Not sure what to think about right now. It looks kinda crappy but I don't see any stick going though it.

Could you post a pic of the cab interior bolts to show what that side looks like. Thanks

Here's the inside. Black screws would have been better but I'm not one to care too much about looks. I guess I could paint them or change them out.

Cb9c0968554fcf2c1854d46df455ca5b

I used elevator bolts where the most pressure is and self drilling screws with 10-24 thread so I could put lock nuts on it.

That looks real clean. I like it. How much did you spend in materials for the entire install?

Just now came upon this thread. Nice job! Especially love the part that covers up those squares from hell lol. Clean looking and I'm sure very strong. Kinda sad to see members with sticks poking through. Poor design.

Good job Joy .This will be my next mod.I almost had a stick come thru on passenger side yesterday riding on my property. Got stopped just in time! I like the UHMW I made my skid out of 1/2 inch. I think I'm going to try sheet metal cut it out and then weld. The elevator bolt good idea. Again good job all pioneer owners should consider this mod!
