Outside of spending almost $400 on a steel tailgate, has anyone modded theirs to make it stronger? I am considering adding a 10"x38.5" diamond plate to the tailgate. My goal with this is that it would help distribute the weight better and prevent the folding and denting.

Buy some hdpd and get some inserts to install on the tailgate, that should help for sure.

@CumminsPusher has filled several with foam to make it stiffer.
Strength is not the issue.
I didn't find a link to the simple fill it with foam fix but here is the Swiss army knife version:

I like the foam idea. Maybe foam and the diamond plate. With how I use it, I'd like to be able to stand on it, lay stands on it, etc.

Here's what I did. Was going to sell them much cheaper than 400 but kept having issues with the plastic warping. I have an extra brand new one ready to go just need to take the time to swap out the hdpe for diamond plate or some other aluminum sheet. I have everything but life keeps getting in the way....

My P1K does not have a crappy tailgate since I spent a couple dollars on two shunts from TS.

Mopower any pics?

Farmer, I like that! You could make some money with that design. JEI is selling theirs for like $375. Which is rough.

Thanks! I think I was in the $250 range before I found the warping issue. I've been putting this idea on the back burner for years. Soon. Soon. LOL! Look me up this winter!!!!

The feedback I'm getting from people when they go with my aftermarket cables is that the soft metal ring at the end of Honda's cables is where they break. Usually overloaded coolers with tailgate extenders or even people riding/standing on the tailgate. I don't give any guarantees on my cables for legal reasons but I will say that if you break one it's either worn out or you're just having too much fun! LOL!

@FlipKing if you want a free set of cables PM me. The corona virus has been good for sales and @Hondasxs has always been good to me so I don't mind paying it forward! And lets talk about this extra brand new heavy duty tailgate I've got sitting here taking up space.;)
