For many years many people have relied on the Delorme Road and Recreation Atlases. Those were the big red covered state by state recreation guides. Delorme recently sold out to Garmin whom also took over their InReach Explorer Sat GPS Systems. They are no longer producing the R & R atlases. Another company has been in operation on the same field since 1995 after a conglomeration of 3 separate companies came together to form The Benchmark Road and Rec. Atlases, which are the same size as the red Delorme ones but have Black covers. In my honest opinion, the Benchmark atlases are much better made and with more up to date and current information as well has providing much more material in their atlases. I rely on these and my InReach GPS. If you don't have any already, I highly recommend checking some of these atlases out. For the past few years Benchmark only made atlases for the western states but I am sure they will fill the void by picking up the rest of the country as well. I've been able to find some amazing areas to explore by the information provided by them and more so than I would've been able to glean from my GPS especially when in areas of little to no cell/internet coverage. I have each atlas for every western state. It's my Cartography Porn Collection.
