Just back from a few day out with old friends in Nevada. It was rocky, rough and FREAKING wonderful. I had the only SxS with my old Pards' on quads, we ran a few hundred miles total. Highs were near 60°f and lows about 40°f. We're all old timers but my one friend actually ran cows and cowboy'd out here in the 1970's...he knew every water hole and trail like the back of his hand. The other guy was a hard rock miner from way back and knows mines and geology, and we've been swapping lies for at least 30 years...

Met a few characters along the way, a trapper that we hadn't seen for a few years that had a couple of bobcats he'd cached. He said there is now an over abundance of mountain lions roaming about the area...a bit spooky taking a late night stroll to relieve oneself!...and there were s*** loads of coyotes and burros.

Anyway as Mark Twain once said... "A good time was had by All!!"...

That old panel truck would make a good project for Chip Foose.

HA! Good Idea! There is LOTS of cars and machinery down at the mine. The Portal was caved in, who knows when it was last worked but the road (freaking TRAIL...) leading down was crazy steep and rocky with at lest a 900' drop to the bottom. I can't imagine the skill (and Huevos!!) that Cat skinner must'a had to push a road along the side of that mountain. It's rocky and busted up now the gradient is the same...STEEP. The reason all that stuff is still there is, there is no way to get it out! LOL...maybe a heavy lift helo.

There is a '53 Chevy down there, flipped on it's side and the 18 gallon gas tank had been mashed, presumably running up that dugway and the 80 miles to town, to where it was about a 10 gallon tank...LOL

It's really way more fun just leaving it alone and seeing it mostly untouched year after year.

EDIT: Here's something cool. Reviewing my Garmin GPS data, running down that raunchy road for a while was a 30% grade or 30'/100' run...for several miles, it ran real steep with rocks the size or bowling balls and a spooky drop-off on the ledge...

If you head up this way again I would love to tag along. We head over the Sierras all the time to ride in NV. Would love to know more of the history and see some more mines.
