Overlanding videos

I wish these people that produce very high quality overlanding videos would spend less time on cooking, making and drinking coffee. I want to see the trip, not the kitchen.

I wished I had someone to come along with us to make some videos.
But.. it too would include setting up camp, cooking, and packing up. lol.

I would like to video more of our rides but I have a difficult forcing myself to stop and do it. I like to ride too much.

The plan I have in mind to accomplish videos would be to ride the area first, making notes of interesting locations, then go back a different day and capture video at those locations.

The cooking and camping videos could be abbreviated. Some guys spend more time on those points than the trip itself.

I try to do the Relive videos on our overlands and rides. Nice way to record trip and see where you went. Biggest thing is that it forces me to take more pics.

Yea, I got tired of Trail Recon as well with all his coffee bulls*** and gushing about how he loves the outdoors.

I could be ready to go to the moon in 30 minutes if I had too. These overlanders who drag along their entire house crack me up.

It's winter in Ohio, actually snowing today and it didn't melt off.
I'll be happy to stay indoors and watch the cooking and coffee (I don't drink the stuff - caffeine should have bubbles) untill spring rolls around.
Hopefully I'll find the motivation to install my 52 gallon fuel tank and 2Kw diesel heater befor then.

I actually kinda like it when they show dinner or whatever. Marco's cooking always makes me hungry. Some are much better than others for sure

I think what you are seeing is the difference between
Wheeling- Simply riding and wrenching as necessary with no food preparation.
Camping- Setting up somewhere and chillin in place.
Overlanding- Combined wheeling and camping in a different location each night.
Sounds like you want more of the Wheelin vids.

I started watching Rubicon Matt because he is local in Ohio.
YouTube is a secondary hobby for him, he has a day job and camping is his primary hobby - polite way of saying his stuff is adequate.
Main reason is I need to find local places to go out for a quick weekend trip.
I've been to Colorado 3 times in the last 2 years and it's a long haul from Springfield.

Rubicon Matt planned a meet up a the local state park but cancelled due to a strict fire ban.
I decided to go anyways, packed food that I could microwave.
There where 6 or 7 showed up.
Got my truck in a background shot in Matt's video and another YouTube guy that was there.
My claim to fame - video bombing in a class B overlanding vid.

Between leaving the house and arriving they lifted the fire ban, I was the only one eating microwaved hotdogs.

Dirt roads are hard to find in Ohio.

The Story Till Now does some really well shot/produced vids. Nice filters give an almost cinematic look at times, but they spend too much time just yapping at times. And I'm really not all that interested in Canada.

Trail Recon is probably the "overlander" I watch most. Venture4wd was also a good one, but I don't really care about s***ty British trucks all that much (as opposed to "Orangy", his jk). Thankfully, he doesn't do much with the RV thing anymore either.

I guess I'm shallow in that I tend to not watch them if they aren't where I'm interested in, or driving/riding what I like.

I guess I'm shallow in that I tend to not watch them if they aren't where I'm interested in, or driving/riding what I like.

I feel like I get it, I use YouTube as a substitute for TV.
A few years ago I was watching some older episode of something on TV and started wondering how much of my life have I wasted with this garbage?
(I've never been to New York and I never plan to go and even if I did I have no desire to interact with the cops there)

Then I started to subscribe to and watch YouTube channels and I found myself back in the same trap of watching garbage, why?
So I put some thought in to why I should watch any particular channel.

My criteria for what I watch:

- Really good cinematography (is that the right word for YouTube) travel.
4XOverland (Australia and Africa and his vehicle builds have some good ideas). Andrew is a bit of a curmudgeon but he's my age so I think he has earned it.
Overland Travelers (Australia). Again usually high quality videos.

- You show me stuff I want to go see.
Trail Recon, I don't watch everything but things like Brad's trip to the arctic was good , I want to go to Tuktoyaktuk one day.
Mongrel Dog Productions (Australia on an adventure bike), he keeps passing through areas I've been to growing up. I'm probably too old to do that on a bike (and I'm more the take the house along type of adventurer anyway).
DXD Overland (Mark Dorian), his story telling is a step down but the places he goes are great. Found a couple of places on our summer trip out west I learned of from his videos.

- I'm bored and didn't want to be doing the things I probably should get off my ass and do so I clicked on it.
I also tend to drop long rambling posts on the two on line forums I frequent (here and expedition portal (I know @100Acre drops in there also)).
