Hi all, my 2017 pioneer 1000-5 with 2385 miles has been leaving some drips in the trailer. Seems like the antifreeze drips are coming from this hose (see pic).
Oil leak seems to be comming from output shaft seal? Oil leak hasn’t left drips on floor but coated bottom of skid plate. I cleaned it off good and will have to check after some rides.

My Pioneer is bit of a trailer Queen since I’m a city slicker and it only get ridden a few times a month.

First thing Id do is toss the G-String 😂 before u end up with something worse than an oil leak

your output seal dosnt look bad from the pics. If anything just minute. How low of oil are you?

Units that font get driven often ND are subjected to temperature swings can and will drip a little antifreeze from that hose.

That's the water pump weep hole hose, if it stops dripping and starts streaming from there is when I'd look at replacing the water pump, which I've never done on a Pioneer.

Verify the oil leak first, that seal is actually for the sub trans and the oil for that is checked from under the front seat. Have you recently had a sub trans oil change aervice done? It could be spillage from that, but leaks from that seal aren't uncommon.

looks like the thin cross member took a rock hit. It’s pretty thin metal but I can’t bend it back down with prybar. Tried to straighten it. Looked at engine and looks like I got lucky no scrapes on aluminum case.

What does everyone recommend for a good skid plate that doesn’t require taking a second mortgage out to purchase?

What does everyone recommend for a hood skid plate that doesn’t require taking a second mortgage out to purchase?

Skid plate is a lot cheaper than a motor or sub trans case. Buy any of the major brands 1/2” UHMW version and you’ll be far better than stock. Just one man’s opinion.

I've had mine bend up a bit after getting high centered .[ It wasn't bent or kinked like yours. ] I used a chain wrapped around the bent spot and a 6' metal bar that slipped through the chain. Placed a block of wood along the main side frame and just pushed down on the steel bar. Used the steel bar like a lever. The chain pulls the bent frame down as you push down on the long end of the steel bar. Hope my explaination makes sense .

the sub trans and both diffs are running factory oil. Never serviced since I’ve only got 2385 miles. I checked the sub trans and it’s full if I thread the dipstick all the way in. If I just set it in without threading oil barely shows on the stick below the add mark. I’m pretty close to level when checking cold.

Any year pioneer 1000 skid will work correct? Aka 2016 - 2023 1000-3 and 1000-5 are the same underneath ?

OT-HON-SK-P looks like various brands modquad and open trail 1/2” UMHW selling for $400+

so instead of the sharp rock poking through the dental floss skid plate Honda deemed as 👍, which bent my crossmember. UHMW would actually with stand that and it would not crack or poke through?

Thanks! The enclosed trailer it resides in sees winter temps from 50F to 0F most of the winter. I’ve only ever seen a few drips, and the level of the overflow never moves.

No sub trans or diff fluid service, just engine oil. Sub trans oil isn’t showing on the dipstick, unless I thread it in. When threaded in it shows full and looks super clean. This is cold with outside temp of 35°.

Sub trans should be full with the dipstick just set in the hole. You Never thread in a Honda disptick to check oil level.

I don't care what brand of skid plate you get but get one!!! I like my UMHW 1/2 thick plate but in your case, anything will be better than what you have!

Hello! I have been trying to figure this one out. It is right above the oil drain but looks like coolant. I have the infernal heater installed at dealer but it does not look like the hose clamps are leaking. This has left a spot like this every time I ride.

Not that this is the case for you, but after I installed my heater, I notice it was leaking right where the tube was brazed to the heater core itself. Not the clamp, but the tube/core solder point. Further, my core was inside of a plastic housing, so once it started leaking, it would have to leak for about 1 minute to "fill up" the bottom of the plastic housing before it would overflow.
