If you have ever been a passenger, you know how awkward the OEM grab bar is on the 700. Same with the 1000 not only do you have the same bar but if you are the 3rd passenger must somehow hold on to the seat grabs?

Built a grab bar for my 700. Loved it.
Now its time to build one for the 1000.
Here is 2 ideas I have been ruining around. What do you think?
  • V1 and V3 seem to be too far to the right for the outer passenger.
  • V2 just looks funny.
  • V3 is what I might end up doing. But the outer grip is about 1 inch too far to the right.
  • There will be a pin to remove them from the main cross member.
  • Glove box will open but not 100%. But enough to remove anything you need.
  • Thoughts?

Great idea making them removable! I like version 3.

Also, you may think about the need for a middle passenger bar. If seated three wide would you really ride hard enough to need it?

Your right. I may never have a 3rd passenger other then child.
V3 is growing on me too. That way I can remove them all or just install one!

BUT... Its awkward off set to the right.
Do a test for me. Put your hands in front of you like you are holding on to this. Now slide them 3 inches to the right.
Thats how it would feel! Is that acceptable on a long trip?

Better then reaching above your head for a bar though!

Just asking but is there metal in behind the plastic dash in a location that would allow you to bolt a flange with a receiver tube ala RZR style, if so could make that receiver tub stick out just 2" from the dash with a hole for the locking pin and use any of the aftermarket T bars as used on the rzr's? Just thinking it might be easier and even less costly that the big crossbar clamps etc. like you did on the 700?

On another note with 4 or 5 point restraints my wife quit using a grab bar all together because when adjusted properly you stay put completely and don't need a bar to steady your upper body. Just thinking out loud.

@JACKAL, I explored the rzr style on the 700. Same thing on the 1000. Not really a bar readily available. Not that a bracket or bar could not be added.

I see that with a harness. You start to grab the harness vs a bar.

Side note. The paint on the ROPS chips easy under pressure. Wished they had power coated them.

Didnt you say on your build for the 700 that you should have made them adjustable? Planning that for this time?

Just below the A pillar mounts is a cross member on theP1K appears to be about 3" wide and dash plastic affixes to the top of it, was thinking the bracket could be bolted underneath it, would only need a 1.5" hole is dash and /t[handle would be removable from it.

Finished up my Passenger Grab Bar tonight.
Used 1.75" weld on clamps that are just a tad too small for the 1.772" bar, but with longer bolts and a little bit of grinding it works. It is a little higher then I wanted but does clear the glove box. I was going to make it removable but did not have the tube to do so.
The 1.5" cross beam just barely clears the sifter at this location. If you move it up 1" higher it would hit the sifter. I think my wife will enjoy it.

What I used.
  • 1.75" Weld On Clamps.
  • 1.5" tube cross bar.
  • 1" tube for connector.
  • 7/8" tube for standard handle bar grips.
  • Oury soft grips.

Very nice!

I want to design one, too, but I
will need a grab bar for the middle
seat, also.

But it won't be too easy with a
windshield, I suppose.

Thanks!

John

any luck with this modification, I ws thinking the same thing. I have 2011 RZR with one, its the big miss in the cab, IMO, that should be standard.
