ARB item # 814301 $170 -$180 dollars roughly, depending on where you find it. It’s about 4’ wide and extends about 6’8”. It’s made to mount to the roof rack of over landing vehicles like a Jeep or Toyota. I trimmed out my roof, and made simple brackets to mount it like to see here.

The brackets are just 1 1/2” angle iron 1/8” thick. I used less than 2’ total.

To make the bracket I started with two 5” pieces of angle. I just cut a 1 1/2 square from one of the pieces, so I could fit the two pieces together into a “T”.

I spaced the brackets 10 1/2” from the side bar. I used U-bolts to secure the parts to the ROPS while fitting/measuring. With my machine setting on level ground I set the brackets to vertically level, and welded them to the ROPS. Then just rounded the edges a little.

Here is a little sketch of the bracket. The hole centers are 1 7/8” apart, and exactly 1” below the top piece of angle worked well for me.

After these were welded up I trimmed the roof. For this I used a jigsaw. I basically just trimmed the roof to be level with the existing line indicated by the red arrows.

From the outside edge of the bracket I measured 7 1/2”.

Next was to bolt the awning to brackets.

That’s pretty much it. I kept it pretty simple. Some brackets made from round pipe would look pretty nice, I’ll let someone else do that! If I need to elaborate on anything feel free to ask.
My machine is chopped 4” and sits on Super ATV a-arms with 29” tires. With the awning level, I have 5’9” of clearance.

I would suggest spending your time trimming the roof. I wish I had made my corners look a little nicer but oh well, it’s not a show car.

Nice job, and it looks like it would stand up to a category 4 hurricane. Nice welds too. Bets the crap out of a pop-up tent pergola.
This is a very very sturdy awning. I’ve had it for over a year with my rag top, just bolted around the rear bar. I love it.

Very nice job, I wanna do it just like you did, looks perfect for my application. U said your rig is chopped 4", mine won't be chopped , will the awning down poles still be long enough so the awning sits level? I've got the Super ATV arms with 28" tires, no lift or anything.

Thanks

Yes. They can be lengthened way out. Like 8 ft tall or something close.

Looks awesome I like it! I've been thinking about doing something like that. Looks like it worked out well.
It worked out very well. Very simple. I was originally going to make a quick connect set up so I could only have it on when I wanted it. But after seeing I could cut the roof and kind of tuck it in there I decided to just make it permanent. I’m happy.

Adjustable aluminum ice fishing poles, that we use in beautiful sunny tropical North Dakota, in our portable ice fishing shacks, would set to any length. The real question is how quite is it when you're going down the trail? Does it sound like you're shaking dice or not noticeable?

The vertical poles wrap up tight in the awning itself when you roll it up. After it’s rolled up it has straps that hold it all to the aluminum frame snug. So none of the poles have any room move. If this thing makes any sound at all I can’t tell.
