Rode the Spearhead Trails system in Virginia last week. Didn’t see any other Talon riders that whole week. The leaves had turned multi colored. The weather was misty, foggy or rainy at some point almost everyday. The trails were wet, leaf covered and slippery, No issues for the Talon, pulled up the steep muddy trails with ease. We stayed 1 night in Big Stone Gap, then 4 nights in St. Paul at the Western Front Hotel, then the next 2 nights in Bluefield, Va. Overall another good trip.

Great Photos and video! What trial did you like best? I've ridden Pocahontas, but not Stone Mountain or Ridgway. How would you compare the later two to Hatfield McCoy tails like Pinnacle, or Rockhouse?

We rode 5 Spearhead trails. Last October we did 6 at Hatfield. We tried to do all the blue trails and as many black trails as we could. The weather and wet trails kept us mainly on blue and green. Saw some sun but not enough to dry things out. Pocahontas had the most closed trails of any. Maybe because it was the last trail we rode during a week of some rain everyday. We started the first day at Stone Mountain. A nice long climb right out of the parking lot was good. Good views and probably the best weather made it our favorite. Ridgeview in Haysi was next. Good trail also. Then it was Coal Canyon, drove by the 3 story Walmart in Grundy, lots of green trails. We stayed 4 nights at the Western Front hotel in St Paul so we trailered to the first 3 trails. We drove out of the motel parking to the Mountain View trail next. That was the heavy rain day. We dress for the weather so we stayed dry. The trails were muddy and really slippery so it was a slower riding day. I can’t really judge how good or bad the trail really is but it was a good ride over to Coeburn for lunch and back. Then drove to Bluefield, Va to ride the Pocahontas trail the last day. It was a muddy mess with a lot of closed trails. I give the trail system credit for being so quick to put all the new closed trail signs out. We just put the map away and hit the trails that were open and had a good time. I think you can get a good ride, easy or difficult at any of the trails. I think Spearhead or Hatfield McCoy are both great places to go riding. They are very similar in many ways. We weren’t disappointed at either place.

Good info. My take on Pocahontas was it was mostly dirt/mud trails, verses the Hatfield trails were more gravel/Rock. But the dirt trails are always smoother, so that is fine by me.
Thanks!

That was on a short cut backroad between St. Paul and Grundy on the way to the trail.
