Not sure if anyone has heard but starting october 1st the bill go into effect in north carolina. There are the normal requirements as others states do as well but its a huge step forward for us pioneer owners. Added the link below for anyone wanting to look into it.

"has an engine displacement greater than 2400 cubic centimeters"

How will that affect the Pioneer 1000?

On edit... Someone else posted right before me. Maybe a misprint in the document. Maybe simply left out less than.

I dont see how it could be 2400cc when small sedans dont have that large of an engine? no manufacture makes anything even close to that in a UTV

If it changes to NO greater the 2.4L...
It still does not meet the size requirements.

And then there is this line
A modified utility vehicle does not include an all-terrain vehicle, golf cart, utility vehicle as defined in G.S. 20-4.01(48c), or a riding lawn mower.

I seen all this a few months back but since it didnt apply I never posted it.
Here are the requirements as stated.
Guess we will find out when the official law hits books next month.

Regulation of modified utility vehicles. S.L. 2020-40 (H 307) enacts new G.S. 20-4.01(27), defining a modified utility vehicle as a motor vehicle that

  • is manufactured for off-road use;
  • has headlamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, windshield wipers, speedometer, and seat belts;
  • has four wheels,
  • has an engine displacement greater than 2400 cubic centimeters;
  • is at least 142 inches long, at least 58 inches wide, and at least 70 inches tall;
  • has a maximum speed of at least 40 miles per hour; and
  • does not require an operator or passenger to straddle a seat.
A modified utility vehicle does not include an all-terrain vehicle, golf cart, utility vehicle as defined in G.S. 20-4.01(48c), or a riding lawn mower.

You are 100% correct there. On october 1 i am going to call and find out more detail and get the ball rolling for myself and i will post back up when i know more info. ALso noticed the minimum length requirements, none of the pioneers make the cut in that category so we will see what happens

I know it's not uncommon, but it's ridiculous that my town allows crappy unsafe golf carts on city streets but not a properly equipped sxs. I'm definitely interested to see what comes of this.

Can register them for street use in Maine now. They have a low speed plate, under 35 mph and a medium speed plate under 45 mph. 35 mph roads or less and 45 mph roads or less. Must have full windshield, mirror, driver side mirror, directionals, horn, headlamps and tail light/ brake lights.
