Terrible family tragedy last night 11-1-24

One of my best friends since early elementary school and my wife’s cousin was killed last night along with his wife and little girl in a helicopter crash. My friend was the pilot in his personal Robinson R-44 helicopter. Incredibly tragic to say the least. Many people are affected by this. Our entire church and community are affected.

I received the page through our volunteer fire dept to assist another district and immediately had a bad feeling about this. There are only 2 helicopters that fly here. The other is medical, based in our small town. I did not go to the accident as a fire firefighter but as family. The reason I don’t respond to vehicle accidents is that I don’t want to see someone I know, like this.

One daughter that is much older from a previous marriage and I think 2 grandsons.

We'll have to wait for the NTSB report in a few months.

Very maintenance heavy air craft. Everything has to be perfectly synchronized to work properly or it doesn't fly.

And it takes years of flying the same aircraft to develop of feel when something is not right.
