Update - this applies so the Pioneer 700-2, 700-4, and 500
All have the same front pad part #'s for front and rear pads!
There was some talk last week about the Pioneer front pads being the same as the Big Red front pads for 1/2 the price. Puzzled by the price difference I decided to order a set of each and find out what the difference was. I already had a set of Pioneer pads on back-order for over 2 weeks. I ordered a set of the Big Red pads and they arrived in a timely manor. Finally the ones for the Pioneer arrived today!
Now that I have both sets lets compare the differences.
Pioneer set (P) - Black pads
This set is the BLACK set and is stamped "HONDA", and "JB NF77". It also has a painted marking of "DA229" on one and "DA722" on the other. The outside pad has a metal spacer/pad that fits over the back side of the pad. The inside pad has a alert feeler to alert you when they are getting closely warn down.
Big Red set (BR) - Silver pads
This set is the SILVER set and is stamped "NISSIN", "NKX16FF", and "H4 t60". It also has a painted marking of "2T27" on one and "2T29" on the other. The inside pad has a alert feeler to alert you when they are getting closely warn down.
Right out of the box the only difference is this metal spacer/pad attached to the back of the outside pad. Surely that does not cost $80.96???
The pad mount plate is the same shape and size.
Upon closer inspection you will notice that the silver set (BR) is 1.50mm skinnier then the black set (P) without the spacer.
The grove for the silver set (BR) is twice as large then the black set (P).
Then there is the unknown factor of the pad materiel. As we are unable to conclude if the pad materials are the same. If the Pioneer set has a higher grade materiel then this could be the price difference.
Our conclusion: The FRONT pads for the Big Red will work as a alternative replacement for your Pioneer Fronts. (rears will not)
