Finally got some time home and finished this project. Well, almost finished. Still waiting on the thumb screws. I’ll do 2-3 per door and that should be enough.

Passenger side panel. If someone cared they could color the rivets.

This is what I fit in the passenger door.

Thoughts:

It’s easy to get to. In the past I was required to remove ratchet straps or bungees that held the boxes down in the bed. Now it’s just a couple thumb screws and dig for it.

The hinge needs washers for backing inside the door.

The hinge needs spacers between the colored panel and the hinge. I used some small #10 nuts.

I bought 10 thumb screws. I’ll keep extra in the glove box. Extra could be used for trailering.

I would double bag the toilet paper.

Happy to see the piano hinge worked!
How is the door function/swing with the added weight?

Thanks for the input, it works great.

As for the added weight, it’s no problem. The Honda hinges are beefy and actually the door now sounds more solid. Time will tell if it causes an issue but I doubt it.

The thumb screws arrived. I think it will work good. I bought six, two for each door and two spare in the glove box.

I cut some of the screw off so I didn’t have to thread it so far. Then I used a shoulder nut so it captures the plastic.

The shoulder nuts have loctite on them.

Here is the pieces I bought. I thought these would have less chance of hanging since they are round versus a wing nut.

The 16mm length would be better as I had to cut the 20mm length.

Decided to copy @joeymt33 door mod and I cut holes in the rear doors. Wow those things are cavernous. All the gear I usually carry in the bed can now be stored away in the doors once I get different storage bags that fit better. Hopefully it stays cleaner, the extra gear weight is much lower, doors don’t rattle, and the bed is free to be cargo or people much easier than before when I had to rearrange everything or pile stuff on top of other stuff.

The ONLY a downside I see is if I am leaned into the door panel that has my recovery gear stored in it. I may keep a short tree saver and block in the glove compartment.

I ended up mounting the stainless hinge to the plastic panel first. Then remounting it to the door taking a piece of masking tape and lining it up along the bottom side of the hinge marking each end then removing the panel and lining the hinge up so that it was in the same place. A few rivets later and she’s done it was quick, maybe 30-45 mins.

I am going to have to do this, that is just too much wasted space not to take advantage of it.

After watching Joey “clown car” stuff out of them I knew I was gonna do it when I got home. It was amazing how much space is in there. I feel like I should fill them up. One side will hold what I carry with room to spare, the other is going to get the water pump and some other things I don’t carry because of lack of space. I may even move my tools out from under the seat.

I was considering making a bed storage box but now I don’t think I’m going to because of all the space.

I think I’m going to be in the market for a bed extender and modify my spare carrier slightly.

@joeymt33 gets all the credit for that one he had the awareness to try it and the guts/stupidity to cut a gaping hole in a door.
Yeah I know. The man deserves an award for sure. He should start making and selling them. Trim out the hole and put a custom logo on the panel. BOOM! I wondered if you could stick some flexible insulation to the inside and put a plug in the bottom you would have a hidden cooler. @joeymt33

I have a 4x8 sheet of ¼" HDPE I'll give him to attempt it...

Actually thats a really good idea, I wonder if a plastics shop could heat some HDPE and after putting insulation in there, make it fill the space? then have a gamma type lid to seal the cooler. Need a drain somehow.

Crap before I start on the tailgate cooler rack I may try to get a volume guesstimate of the empty door.
It's a little crude but after insulating you could use a large waterproof stuff sack. Put it in the hole then fill with ice and drinks. When you're done you can pull ice and water right out the hole.

And I will pass some of the credit to CP because he was the inspiration with his tailgate storage.
