Just about to pull the trigger on a Pioneer. Own a Commander 800 now but have never been happy with the huge console between the seats, the small bed and it's tough to steer(doesn't have power steering).
Have test driven the 700 and 1000, leaning towards a loaded up 700 P3. I am wondering if having power steering added is worth the $$ or not. Also, is there anything I should know about a 700, anyone wish they had the 1000 for real reasons other than "it's new and we always want the next big thing!!"?

Well @Donny I Think you have your mind already made up. And that's not a bad thing! you have to know what you want or you will not be happy with it. I have the 700-4 and I am pretty much doing like you said "loading it up". and it does every thing that I need it two do and more. the P1000-5 is nice two but for the same money it will be stock. The power steering I would say is worth the money for long rides and for 4 dif lock riding! I get along with out it but I will get it when I can.

My 700 is a Sherman tank. Cab stays cool, reliable as anything. Probably the most reliable. I've ridden in a few others and when I get back into mine I feel at home and confident i made the right decision. if your a high flying fast paced rider you'll want to go else where. The 1000 is sweet as well its definitely faster but the 700 is technically a 2 seater. The 1000 is a 3 seat. I added the power steering and it was easy and worth it

I'm thinking power steering, flip out windshield, 14" wheels/tires and extended warranty and still below stock 1000.

I have owned both the P700 and now the P1000. You can't go wrong with the P700 for the money. All machines have their limit and to me the P700 had a few that bugged me. I really wanted to be able to unlock the rear diff. My SXS is used primarily for property maintenance and the P700 was chewing up my yard and blackening my concrete driveway. Not to mention it was also hard on tires.

Next was the limit of tire size. I like to run larger tires and my P700 was maxed out with the 28" tires. It did ok but it was a lot slower vs the stock sized tires.

Third thing was the lack of low range. I use my SXS for hauling firewood, skidding logs, etc. I really wanted the low range.

These things may not be important to you. However, I thought you may want to hear it. The P700 is tough like Plumber mentioned above. If the P1000 wasn't released, I would still be super happy with the P700.

Is all that worth the extra price to you? You decide, we will provide you with our experiences and assist in any we can.

You'll want a winch too don't forget. The only thing the 1000 has that I wish my 700 had is the 6 speed tranny and a bit higher top speed.

Thanks for the advice and info. We trail ride through the Ozarks crossing creeks etc., never very fast and only in a mud hole occasionally so speed is not needed. Ground clearance is a must, do you guys run 12's or 14's on the 700? Do you have lift kits installed?

GO HOGS! I'm originally from Russellville and have fam in Fayetteville and Clarksville.

Anyway, my rule of thumb is 12" wheels for 27" tires and smaller. 14" wheels for 28" tires and bigger. There are some variables like ply rating and machine weight but for the 1300lb P700, I would use only 14" wheels with 28's so you don't pinch a tire.

As for lift kits, you will have several options, just DON'T get the High Lifter. It will tear stuff up. I like the Strong Made lift for the P700. It's cheap and durable.

Here's my old P700

Nice ride! Do you recommend lifting it if I go with 14's and 28's? And WPS but they're stinking it up tonight.

That picture is with 28's. I loved it but I had raced other pioneers with 26" tires and they would kill me. However, in the mud and big rocks, I could leave them behind. What ever works for you. With all the guys and experience on this forum, we should be able to provide plenty of pics as well if that would help.

I found 26" bighorns were a good size. Didn't rob any power and made it alot smoother at 30mph. By dropping the rpms. I climbed some crazy shtuff with this setup. I also have a set of 27" zillas all on 12" . They measure very close to the bighorns and do great as well. As for power, I've pulled out several cars stuck in the snow, as well as my 3500 work van full of tools. It will spin all 4 on dry blacktop pulling without hesitation.

I personally would probably go with a 3" lift and 28's if I had it to do all over again.

At minimum, I would get 27".

One thing I've found is a uni air filter makes it alot more responsive. I've tested back to back with the stock air filter it hits the speed limiter alot faster. The stock filter on the backside is closed off where the uni is all filter so it sucks alot more air and is noticeable.

:eek:SHOCKS!!!!:eek: for the 700, depending on theterrain you ride or how you'll use it. I do a lot of trail and desert terrain loaded with 4 people and the stock shocks were junk and slowed me down.

Yes shocks were a nice upgrade. Especially the fronts. But I don't think the 1000s factory shocks are something to wright home about either. But first hand experience with the 700 is a great upgrade. Mine is a 14 and I know honda updated them in 15 still no wildcat but must be better.

@Donny, where are you at in AR? I lived in NE AR for 39 years before moving to AK. Spent many hours trail riding in the Ozarks. We may have covered the same ground.
