Has anyone changed the steering rack (box) in a 1000-5? I am having a heck of a time removing the upper bolt on the passenger side. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Can you get an impact wrench on it?

No. It's nutted to the firewall side. You have to take that little access plate off and can barley get a 14mm wrench on it...and 0 leverage. I did put a impact on the other end while my helper held the wrench but had to use a really long extension and a swivel. Didn't budge. Another real obstical is the hard plastic breather tube. Exactly in the way and only a finger width between it and the nut.

TripleB,
I removed the access door and have removed 3 of the 4 bolts. My problem is the upper bolt on the passenger side. I can get a 14mm on it but there is no leverage to be able to turn it. You mention instructions in your reply. Did you mean to post a link? Or, just describing the process in the body of the post? Thanks for the tip on the EZ mount.

It was just a screen shot of a private message someone sent me years ago.

I see. This video is what I used for instructions. This last bolt is being a pain.

Ok. Finally got it broke loose from the outside. Long ratchet and a strong buddy helping. Then to hold the nut on the inside I used a 9/16" distributor wrench I found in my toolbox. Strongly recommend the distributor wrench or a really offset box end wrench to get on the nut on the inside. TripleB, I ordered the EZ mounts. Thanks for the tip.
