Since payment is only accepted at the time of pickup, exactly how does this scam work?
That's just a standard payment method one can choose when adding a listing.
I see "
Full payment is required within 7 days of listing closing" in several placed on the ad.
Unless you live in NC or nearby, most will likely not be able to pick it up in NC within 7 calendar days, which means you're sending payment or at least a healthy deposit.
And the conflicting statements in the listing are another hallmark of a scam:
Call me a realist, a cynic, a pragmatist, a tin foil hat wearer, or whatever you choose. Who knows, perhaps it is legit, but I see no way anyone in their right mind would sell a ~1 year old machine with an MSRP of $22,299 PLUS transportation/destination (usually $1K-ish) PLUS setup/assembly ($300-400-ish) PLUS (if applicable) sales tax (another $1000 to $1500-ish) on an eBay auction with no reserve (or a reserve lower than the price it sold for) for only $14,100. You'd have to be an IDIOT to do that.
Maybe someone DID get an astonishingly great deal on a 1-year-old Pioneer. As long as they post pics as soon as they show up here, that's all that matters, right? 🤣
