Well that doesn't make sense why they would change hp numbers
Perhaps as a non response from the direct competitor the Ranger XP900 @ 68HP unchanged for 2015 to 2016, this will give them 5 more HP to bump from this year to whenever they need more to be a direct comparison for future competition. Or... a future Sport SXS giving a bigger difference in HP with same engine / DCT platform. Go from 72 HP to 92 HP and drop it from 1500 / 1700 lbs. to 1200 lbs. and it would be noticeable quicker while keeping it easily reliable.

Maybe that's a California only hp number because there towing and payload isn't the same as non California? Just a thought

Hopefully that is true the Communist Air Restrictions Bureau on the left coast doesn't restrict the rest of Mercia from having fun with decent performing machines. It sad one states legislature of overzealous, overreaching, laws to pacify the tree huggers of the extreme tangent may affect everyone else.

If manufacturers stood up to the one place different from everyone else and the people that live there couldn't get what they want "legally" then maybe the overly restrictive laws would get amended to follow suit with the nationwide accepted standards. /rant off

Unfortunately with the HP at 72....and the Ranger at 68 HP....Honda is not going to see a stampede from Polaris owners...why wouldn't they just give up the HP and loosen the restrictions on the power ?? Becouse like the government...Honda knows whats best for us ? A lot of hype and then HP let down. I just see for the first time a tv commercial for the P1000 last week.

Thanks @Edmoondo,
We kinda figured that may been the case. It is way too late in the game for Honda to change it up.

It was accidentally posted as 57.3KW when it should have been 53.7KW. Wish there was a better explanation but that's it.

A simple crossing of the numbers is all.

Even so at 72HP is still nearly double that of the P700 for a similar sized vehicle, I'm not disappointed by any measure of the imagination. It is only the first year for the P1K leaves room to grow with ease.

I'm sure if your riding 35 hp ....you'll be thrilled with the 72 hp....I'm gonna try one out...heading to Maine's largest fair on Sunday it opens....I'll be looking for the Honda tent and see if I can stuff my fat ass behind the wheel...it looks like the P1000 has a 'extreme' tilting wheel for folks who enjoy eating....

Imo 72 hp should be way better than the competition mainly cause of Their drive train / clutch systems. Honestly what good is 100 hp if you have to spend another 3k on clutches to get the power to the ground. I just sold my Xp800 with 50 hp to get the new P1kD5 so I will be plenty happy with no belt issues and 72 hp.
