Hi All

I wanted to share a new video I made regarding camping in the back country with my P500.

I normally carry a tent, sometime a hammock but each one had its issues. I was planning on building something semi rigid I could setup hanging of the back of the rack then I saw the Kamp-RIte Tent Cots.

I'm sure they have been around for ever but I never considered them much as they are way too heavy for anything but specialist use. But the more I thought about it the more sense it made.

It’s a combination of a tent and a hammock (in my mind) with the best of both worlds. It keeps you up off the ground like a hammock but is stable and roomy like a tent. The only obvious downside is the weight and size.

The build quality is good with fully taped seams and chunky zippers. Esme (my dog) and I easily slept in the cot in comfort, especially with my new Therm-a-Rest Basecamp XL mat, which fit perfectly!

I topped that off with my Canadian Forces down sleeping bag and I was very comfortable even though the temperature dropped to below freezing.

Let me know what you use or if you have the same gear - Would love to learn some tips and tricks.

Kind regards

Michael (aka Ovo)

That's pretty slick. How's the condensation when it's wet out? I've been using floorless single wall shelters the last year. Will be getting a Kifaru Sawtooth here shortly. But for not needing backpackability this looks pretty cool.

Those Kifaru Sawtooth's are nice tents! - I have the go-lite hex and the tipi design is very stable and roomy. Not too sure how the condensation will be yet - I slept with all the screens up so had no issues. Canada where I live (Alberta) has very low humidity even in summer so I'm hoping it wont be too bad.

Like u said it's heavy and bolky bot easy to put up and take down and a fether weight for my P500. ;)

Yup - I could 2 of those on the old P500 and not loose too much sleep on the additional weight. Looking forward to Winter before the snow gets too deep for the UTV :D

Nice! I usually use a hammock but this would be great for a Pioneer!

All single wall shelters get condensation. Running a wood burning stove helps a lot if you can sew in a stove jack or throwing a bivy over your bag. Ran a Seek Outside lil big out deer hunting last year. Got our asses kicked, a cabelas guide tent collapsed under wind and snow load, but we were comfy and warm. If it'll survive Kodiak, it'll survive anywhere!

Man that's a cool setup for camping on the trail. My problem with @JTW setup he mentioned is the dang bugs can still get you. Guess I just taste good. I get eaten up usually.

Yeah.. it's a late fall setup or throw a mosquito net or parachute or tarp over the whole rig.
