Awesome, were the aspens a bit diminished due to the early snow several weeks ago? How far is Crested Butte from Taylor Lake. We rode Taylor Lake last year and I don’t remember an option to get over to CB?
Crested Butte is about a 35 mile drive from Taylor Lake to a trailhead parking area. You can also hit connector trails/roads that go to Taylor Lake area just a few miles outside of CB. Crested Butte Trails north of town can take you into Marble, CO through Devils Punch bowl but don’t connect to the Taylor Lake trail section. Some Aspen had leaves falling off already and some were just changing colors.

Absolutely stunning! We love the Gunnison/Taylor/Crested Butte area. I've ridden ATV's and motorcycles there on previous visits, but have not yet taken the Talon. Next year perhaps.

The Slate River road from just north of Crested Butte up to Paradise Divide is beautiful. And of course the side trip down over Schofield Pass/Devil's Punchbowl/Crystal Mill is incredible. I've actually been down the Punchbowl in a Jeep C5, which was plenty precarious going around that big bolder that sits in the middle of the trail halfway down. It's a shame that they do not allow ORV travel between the town of Crested Butte and the ski area, thereby requiring backtracking the loop. BTW - the ride up to Gunsite Pass, close to the beginning of the Slate River road is a wonderful excursion too.

Thanks for sharing these great pics.

I'll be in WV on October 24th as well. We are staying in Gilbert and riding RockHouse and Devil's. What trail system are you riding?

We will be staying 4 days at the Holiday Inn in Logan Then stay somewhere else and do the southern trails for a day or two. It’s a 2 day drive for us so we check in the 25th. We will do Rockouse and Devil Anse trails along with a few others. Looking at the maps now just haven’t decided yet which ones.

Cool. I was going to ask if it was your first trip. But looks like you have been there before. I've been going there since 2012. I honestly barely need a map anymore. I do have a Lifetime trails GPS, so we have been hitting the outlaw trails a lot this year. I'm arriving the 22nd and plan to leave on the 25th. So we won't be able to meet up. We just rode Buffalo and Devils Anse two weeks ago. And we spent a 1/2 day on the outlaw trails. It was just two of us, so we moved right along. We'll ride from our place outside of Gilbert to Giovani's in Matewan for lunch on the 23rd, and then ride back. That is just under 100 miles round trip, so it's a long day. The next day we pretty much ride all of Rockhouse. We have been doing this same trip for 3 years now.
I've stayed at that HI Express in Logan a few times. It's a neat trail over to Logan, and then riding through Logan is always odd. Good news is that Bear Wallow has a new section to the West. Instead of turning left on Mud Fork Road you go Right, and the trail is about a 1/2 mile away.
