Hi Folks, newbie rider looking for input on pros and cons of a half windshield in desert riding conditions. I mostly ride in quite dusty conditions where the temps range between 75 & 95, but drops into the 60’s once the sun sets. My main goal is to make riding in the lower temps more comfortable, which would be accomplished if the 1/2 shield blocks about half the wind. But am wondering if the 1/2 shield might make it too hot when riding in the 90’s. Also what about dust? Does the 1/2 shield cause more dust to collect in the cabin?
Your thoughts?
thanks

Its cooler yes. But you become Ahab The Arab in seconds If your behind someone. They also will create a vacuum in the cab that can put a decent amount of dust in your cab. We have sandy trails and Ive tried this many ways. Deff nicer to have it driving alone and not fast in sand. Just MO

Welcome btw what rig do you have?
Can u post up some pics for us please?

Welcome from TX. ^^^ What Remington said. I have chosen for now to not have a windshield. When it's cool we just wear a coat. Goggles help when it's dusty. What are you riding? Post a pic.

Been riding with a half shield for nearly 10 yrs now. Keeps you cooler and I like the wind in my face, makes it more like the old days of off roading. You will eat dust, especially if riding behind someone else. But it's either that or stopping every 20 mins to clean off the windshield. That's the other benefit is being able to see. Full shields get covered with crap or just have a glare that I can't stand. I wear motorcycle glasses that have a foam around them to seal out the dust. The wife wears contacts so I had to get her some Bug Eye goggles. Is it going to keep half the wind off of you, no. If riding in front or by yourself then dust isn't bad. Keep an opening in the back to keep air flow through the cabin. We carry gear for cooler temps and for rain, even though we've been thoroughly soaked on a couple rides. Still better than riding in an aquarium. 🤷‍♂️

After getting a bee inside my sunglasses and getting stung on the eyelid I vote for a full windshield, it was ugly.
