I thought I followed the instructions precisely but on start up, it sounded quite a bit different. Ran it out to the road and won't go over 35 mph.
I feel that I set the gaps correctly. Here is a picture of TDC.
Any suggestions appreciated. thanks in advance.

Did you make sure it was on the compression stroke?

Just off the top of my head - there are two TDCs. one on the compression stroke and another at the end of the exhaust stroke. At the end of the exhaust stroke, both valves are open slightly, it's called 'overlap'. If you set the valves there, they'll be loose. The giveaway is if you had to move the adjustment very far - a normal valve adjustment will only be a few degrees but if you were at overlap, you'll have to turn the adjusters much further.

ETA: slower than Russ ;)

thanks guys, that is probably it. I didn't get that out of the instructions but no doubt, that is my fault.
I will go back and re do it.
It happens bud, I’m getting ready to do the valves on my 1000. I wish they were as simple lol.

CID and Russ,

You guys are great. I have way too many things going on right now. Having this forum and the quick response is greatly appreciated.
I''ll get this finished in the a.m.

Which instructions did you follow?

The prognosis of "wrong TDC" sounds like a good place to start.

Just going from memory. Did mine and worked good. Think there are 2 points in the cycle where the lines are synced. One right and one wrong. Don’t think I would run it till you get it figured out.

The easiest way to determine TDC on the compression stroke is to try and wiggle the rocker arms. If they are tight and wont move, then your on overlap and need to spin it 180 degrees.

Remember, screw type adjusters will always loosen up. When adjusting these you'll never need to loosen the adjusters when your starting out. They should always be moveable beforehand.

The P1K is a different story on the intake anyways.

Just now got back to this and made adjustments.

As of now:
It sounds better than before adjustments were made.
Changing gears seems smoother
O-35 is definitely faster
BUT

It starts to cut out at 43 mph. I ran it up to 45 in the past.
I will rarely go over 35mph and most of it is around the property under 10 mph.
But if I am off, I would like to fix it now before I put it all back together.

Thoughts or suggestions appreciated. thanks-

Mine cuts out at 43. It doesn’t sound like you have a problem. 🙂
