mobil makes hondas hp4s and gn4 oils

That's good info, now I'd like to know if they used group 3 or 4 oils for the synthetic. Do you have any more info?

I'm curious where you get that info? It is labeled to be compatible with other Dino oils which group 5 usually isn't.

I was just doing s little research and it appears that ExxonMobile lost the Honda oil contract a while back and now ConnocoPhillips makes Honda oil.

I will add this note, I did change oil in the differentials and noticed a big improvement in gear noise. I used 75-140 and added Lucas stabilizer.
140 is quite a bit higher viscosity than the Honda recommended 90. Do you add enough Lucas stabilizer the bring it down or am I over-thinking it?
Can I ask what brand oil and what Oil / stabilizer ratios you use?

I have been debating this issue as well. Talking to the dealer Friday and he suggested 1st oil change based on hours of service not 100 miles. He said he felt the break-in was not completed and said you would have better results based on hours on the engine. I didn't argue but was doing the math in my head. That could be a lot of miles!
Interesting?

75-140 isn't actually a 140 weight oil. It gives the protection of a 140 and flows like a 75 weight when cold.

The idea IS to thicken the oil to reduce noise. Now, it will cause an increase in parasitic power loss in the drive train but not noticeable at all.

The lucas oil additive is very thick and "clings" to the gears for very good wear protection. It will also provide some cushion to reduce noise. I used 50% OEM oil and 50% lucas on the pioneer 1000

On the P700 I used Mobil 1 75-140 and lucas additive.

I hope his helps. I never had any adverse affects. Now, my friend owns my old pioneer 700 and still drives it with the same oil in it. It's approaching 1000 miles and no problems. Also, many others have done this same thing.

I put in HP4S after the first oil change and I will say, it starts almost instantly. first thing I noticed before the oil change was the amount of cranks it took for it to start, I believe this was discussed on another post.
Someone mentioned Hondas fired based on oil pressure. I believe I added 6 qts 8 ozs. It was @-5 the other morning and the 1000 fired right up sitting in the garage, drove it to work where it sits outside all day and it was 2 cranks and it was idling.

When I had the 700 I was amazed the difference the Amsoil made for cold start warm-up/shifting.

With the HP4S in the 1000 I am amazed how it changed the starting.

Was the oil a tad on the low side to begin with? Or did the HP4S make that much of a difference? My machine gets started and driven everyday of the week same as the 700 did so I take alot of mental notes on temp changes and their effects on the machine.

Thats interesting, When I brought my machine home it cranked a couple times to start. I checked all fluids and added a couple oz. of engine oil. as it was a little low and now thinking back adding oil did seem to make it start faster. Anyone else have ideas on this?
