We can only hope this Turbo finds its way to the Talon. Next year on the Talon would make my day and with forged pistons. This is a running engine now for testing.

Honda has stunned the motorcycling world at EICMA in Milan by releasing the first details and information on what would be the first electronically supercharged motor in motorcycling history.

The advent of the electronic supercharger would thus allow smaller capacity, cleaner burning engines to create torque levels normally reserved for much larger engines while retaining the lightness and reduced inertia of smaller displacement machines. Honda has said they are planning to put this concept into production within the next five years.

An extra battery on the Talon is no problem and a higher output alternator is also no problem. This technology is perfect for the Talon. Computer control of the injection and boost will set a new standard for side by sides. I can see this on Honda cars in the future. I really like the keep it simple concept.

What's wrong with an old fashioned turbo? No battery required.

The exhaust temperature is high, and it is harder on the oil plus the need for the intercooler.

When I hear about e-turbos this is what comes to mind for me…

Electric Supercharger Turbo, Electric Turbo Universal 3in Electric Turbocharger Air Intake Generator Turbo Parts Car Modification Accessory

IMO probably makes a bettter under seat fan lol.
I think you will find this is the real deal.
The concept has been out there for a minute, in Formula 1 they run a motor between the turbine rotors.
Screenshot 20241117 180825

With this they play computer games.
The motor can act as a generator and put energy back in to the batery.
Or the motor can spin up the turbo before there is exhaust flow - giving instant on power like a supercharger.
Or the motor can power the turbo so you don't have additional exhaust back pressure giving max power to the wheels.

On a street bike the demand for power is a much lower percentage of the time.
So running a compressor off a battery with no turbine makes sense.
It reduces the additional weight, it still make power like a turbocharger and it can be controlled in the ecu.
(There is no need to tell me all about how computers in vehicles are the devil, y'all forfitted that right with your fuel injection and DCT transmissions)

In countries with limits on displacement or where they tax by displacement I see a business case for this type of thing.
(FYI the USA falls in to the displacement limit category)
I just don't see the need to pay extra for this type of thing when there are more cost effective solutions.
But I thought that about the DCT when honda dropped that on ATVs too so what do I know.

I’m fully aware that an e-turbo is legit… well atleast in the past few years.

Just a play on some humor from Amazon or eBay.

Honda won't be putting any kind of forced induction on a Talon from the factory, ever. The chassis materials and design of it will not hold up to big power and it would quickly tear itself apart. The only way I see Honda ever selling a turbo UTV would be if they designed something completely new.

If your turbo is glowing orange like that, either your engine tuner sucks and you should find a new one, or your fuel system is inadequate. Just installing a PROPERLY TUNED turbo system WILL NOT CAUSE THAT. This isn't 1989 anymore and we have this thing called technology now....

A Talon R is dirt cheap compared to any turbo SxS on the market in the same category, so what is the big deal if you have to spend an extra $7k on it to install a KraftWerks or Jackson turbo kit and a pair of forged pistons?

The always entertaining 44 Teeth crew did a video on the V-3...

Once they get the e-charger sorted, perhaps they could dedicate some of the engineering talent on other things. Like door bushings that don't rattle...or maybe an exhaust design that isn't guaranteed to squeak within 200 miles of purchase?
