Always looking for new places to explore wether it's hiking or preferably riding, I love to visit old ghost towns and mines across America. I love to metal detect and search for trash and treasures of bygone eras. If there's history to be found, there's a chance I'll be looking to discover hidden gems of the past. I know there are others here that like doing the same, so please share your experiences! Especially if there are old abandoned towns or mines to explore.

This is from an old rail road Ghost Town called Lester in Washington about an hour or so from my uncle's place just south of Seattle, near Stampede Pass. I don't know if you can ride there, it being Washington and all but we did hike to it. I found a tiny headless porcelain figurine there.

That’s awesome. I love that kind of stuff. I just haven’t had the time to explore some in this state. I know in the UP there are some old mines in Iron mountain. Don’t know if you can ride right to them but you can get within walking distance I’m sure.

You probably know that one of the most in tact ghost towns that still exists is the trail head for a BA trail that can take you over 5 passes in the same day beginning with, I think, Tin Cup in Colorado.

Looks extremely interesting and something I would enjoy. Have you ever stumbled upon some interesting characters while out?

Montecresto, I agree, very doubtful I would find anything of value, but would enjoy the stop/digging through stuff, a reminder of years gone by....

Oh yeah, you sure can. I’ve found lots of treasures (and junk lol) found a real cool Model B Alladin lamp. Cleaned up the brass, ordered a mantle and round wick, and the thing is as bright as a 60 watt incandescent!! Amongst much more.

Abandoned towns are the best, and those look to be in pretty good shape. I'm fascinated with the stories of how they became abandoned. Centralia, PA comes to mind... such a waste. We have one close to home called Pere Cheney that was wiped out by diphtheria... twice. Awesome pics, guys.

There are a ton in the UP, but I live in the LP and that's where Pere Cheney is located. We'll be making some abandoned town stops on the summer's UP ride.

There's all kinds of abandoned crap all over the whole state, and probably every state! Michigan Tourism Theaters Auto Racing Motels Lakes Resorts Drive In Theaters Cinemas Amusement Parks Nostalgia Travel Photos Weather
Wow what a great website, that’s a noble endeavor and really great for posterity....

Yeah, it's cool. A lot of the things at that site are still open, but it's interesting to read about the history. I stumbled across that site during my search for abandoned ski resorts. I'll never get through all of the stuff I want to see... thankfully, my wife likes that stuff too.

Following. We’ve hit Silver City, Idaho City and the many surrounding areas. Looking for more! I can’t get enough of history that’s still intact.

If it's not protected by some archaeological or historical significance, I'd be up the metal detecting for old coins!
