P1000 Got my Pioneer 1000-5 Today

Unbelievable how smooth and nice it shifts and runs! Gear selectors are way nicer move easy. I shifted my 700 all the time between 2wd and 4wd and back all the time and will continue with this had no problems doing so (Honda says no maybe listen to them but I won't)I think like my old truck as long as you're not spinning it's fine. The nets are better and easier and the fronts unbolt(gone) easier unlike 700. Power steering is a little better then aftermarket unit my 700 had pretty smooth. The engine is sooo quiet that there is a little too much gear whine is my ONLY complaint. I will be buying the rubber floor mat as I think this will drastically cut the noise down. Possibly some dynamat underneath. The 700 had this same whine but like I said the 1000 is so darn quiet that I will address this. Power power power it's nice! Be a little careful over a series of bumps because it's really responsive and slight tap of throttle pisses this thing off! It's pretty easy to lose a little control with it new drivers beware a bit. Same heat from under the seat. Hood now has improved latches and adjustable hood stops. Bed opens easier. No rattles to speak of here for mine after adjusting the door stops. Roll bar design is way better tougher smoother Not as much room under hood but well placed. Shocks are better by miles over the 700 (obviously not broke in yet will get just a bit better) however I've still got my fox shocks and they appear to be same length so I'll stiffen them up and drop them in can't beat fox. The secondary battery I bought and kept falls into extra cavity perfectly and I mean perfect! My $26 35watt hid replacement in my 700 was better and brighter I might be pulling those out and replacing with hid non-deluxe but they are lots better then stock 700. Front doors are a harder to open from inside however they go up higher so you feel safer and that annoying brace at the end of the seat is gone. Back slightly more leg length room lots more knee room little less sideways foot room. Access to maintenance little worse. Valves will require a little more maintenance as intake only is shims but exhaust is adjustable. Seat belts fold better in the rear, upper hooks for them a little funky. Middle seat in front very roomy. Low range could have been lower but nice to have however this is so strong it makes you think you could pull a 25ft boat and I'm sure people will. My front bumper was a little loose easy but dammit. Control arms are better can't get over the rear end of this thing!!! It is built!!! Been around cars because of my field for 25yrs and this thing rivals many of the better ones. The cv shafts are beasts! Very tough frame with multiple spots to replace. If you don't have money on one do it when you can! This is incredible. Loved loved loved our 700 but this is a game changer. Before you could laugh at broken Polaris or Can-ams or tow them back now you can still do that as well as run along side them. Top Tier here guys. Big deal. ATTA BABY HONDA.


Thanks for the write-up, that is a great review. I have trouble finding the right words to say about how great the machine is. The comparison to the 700 is a good read. In June of this year I needed a new vehicle and I decided right of the bat it would not be a CVT. I was reading everything there was on the Honda Pioneer and if it weren't for this forum and the rumors of the 1000, I would have bought. Well after all those months of waiting and wondering, I have it and it's better than I could have hoped. The other day I was driving quickly over some whoops that I would have stood up to absorb when riding my Grizzly and throttled down, I almost don't pay attention to in my P1K. Really a great (and beautiful) machine.

I couldn't be happier with mine! One thing to look for when I went and sat in the office to finish the financing the guy told me The insurance was going to be almost $1800 for four years of additional coverage bringing the total coverage up to 4 1/2 years I said what??!?? We argued for a little bit and I said the coverage should be around 700 or so for a total of five years come to find out the 1000-5 was new enough they didn't have anything to go off of on Honda so they went off of Polaris insurance! So after he went back to Honda I gained six months that Polaris factory coverage lacked on Honda and dropped 1100 off of the additional coverage. I can't believe that even up front the Polaris unreliability costs you extra as well!! Six more months of coverage and basically 1/3 the price. Even the Polaris pushers know there crap. I guess it's just like the gun stores that sell you Glocks all day long over Berretta whatever you make the most money on sell sell sell! The dealers know that they'll make more money upfront and more money all the way through and more money in the end we have to replace it quicker if they sell your Polaris Same reason they say K&N is junk they won't make money off your butt!

Thank you! It's just my beatum up camping truck but the cummins never dies and it doesn't know the pioneer is there. Doesn't squat more then a 1/4 inch

we noticed the sagging as well. Its something that Honda has been working on since we contacted them on Thursday about it. We had our shop foreman fix the passenger door so it wouldn't have to be lifted up anymore. For all of the rest of you that are waiting on your pioneers, hopefully they will have them all fixed before they ship the others out that should be arriving next week. we sent several videos and pictures to them and they started working on it immediately. HOPEFULLY it wont hold the shipment up. I have a feeling that was the "latch issue" that they stumbled upon early last week.

I am so happy you love your machine. I'm selling two of my personal motorcycles to buy the P1K3D when they hit. :)

The two 1000-5's the dealer in Alaska has received also have the door sag issue. Brand new on the showroom floor and the doors don't close, unless you lift them up an inch or so. My dealer said they have an email into Honda to make sure they know of the issue. The hinges look pretty cheap.

Have you heard anything back from Honda on a fix? I was hoping the dealer would take care of the issue, but they say their hands are tied.

The rear doors on mine rub the hard front door support structure due to the sag. I can only see the door sag getting worse, after we get it out on a couple hunts. For the price of a small car, I guess I was expecting these kind of issues to be addressed before leaving the factory.

Other than the door sag, the machine look like it will be lot of fun!

It sucks that Honda didn't adjust them but every thing is pretty adjustable. Mine did sag a bit but was very easy to adjust out now it's just click-click on mine. I would hope the techs there are good enough to just do it

Yeah. I will have to adjust the front hard door framing to allow the rear door to clear. As it is right now, the door sags enough that is rubs against the framing of the front doors. See picture. I was a little surprised by how weak the door hinges were.

The dealer wanted to cut away a 1/2" section of the door frame to get everything to clear. That was a bit surprising when the dealer told me they wanted to start cutting into a brand new machine.........oh well, I told them not to touch it. I'll get it all adjusted when I get it home.

How did you adjust the door hinge so there was no play? They didn't look adjustable to me, unless I drilled them out and replaced them with something more stout. Did you just deal with the door sag by adjusting the latch height to compensate?

Wow ok mine wasn't that bad! I'll look in the morning but I expect the rest is adjustable that much.
