You sure it's a 48? My 51 has a side mount distributor and is still 6 volt. I can't recall when Ford retired the 9N. I use mine every week in the summer mowing the yard. Beats the crap out of a Zero turn in ride quality! HA!
Yes it’s a 48’ the 48’s were the last year for the front mount (mushroom style) distributor. It’s stamping on the axel states it a 48 also. I converted it to 12 volt like everyone up here that uses there 8N in the sub zero temp winters. The 6volt dosnt cut it in 20 degrees and lower not to mention that 6volt generator is very expensive

I cheated, put electronic point system on. Guess you have figured out the point replacement of the front distributor , just take off the entire assembly and set points, you can't get it out 180, only goes on one way.
