Well this was a good time... Luckily I was only a few miles from my parents' place when it happened so I was able to limp it back over there. I've never seen one break like that before. It got my attention when it snapped going 50 mph with the trailer on the back for sure. It just sheared right in half, no bend or anything; 2007 Tacoma 4WD 163k miles.

Apparently it's pretty common for it to happen with cheap ass spacer lifts, but mine's completely stock. All the others I saw when I Googled were bent and mangled like I'd expect to see if the strut bottomed out before the bump stop could contact. The break in mine looks like you cut it in half with a bandsaw. Also realized how much s*** I need to replace in the front end once I had everything apart. Guess the Tacoma will be next weeks Corona-tine task.

Hmmmm... you raise an interesting point that was just recently brought to my attention. Are you sure there wasn’t a saw involved?
