I was stationed on Ohau, Schofield Barracks, for 4 years. Many trips to the Big Island for training at Pokaloa. Those seven steps, when loaded heavy, are no joke. Was in snow at the observatories, and then sandy beach at the docks.
Have seen the black sand beaches as the lava flows into the ocean and explodes. We drove all the way around the Big Island, ocean side, in a rental, took over 12 hours.....dam, haha. Can't remember the end of a party when we got wasted at this biker bar, I think it was called the Puahana, in Hilo. Haha!!

Have been back to Oahu twice now since retiring from the Army in 2007. We will be there again in 2026 for our 30th Anniversary.

Welcome to the club from the Black Hills of South Dakota. I have been there (the islands) several times throughout my military career. Unfortunately I never got to get the experience of Ha-wee-wee cause I only stopped there on my way to another deployment. Like the bossman said, post up pics when your get you ride and make sure to start up a build thread when you start modifying and upgrading it so we can all follow along while you progress your Pioneer. You have definitely come to the right place for advice on all things Honda SXS and some things not..........🤣. If you got thick skin, make sure to stop on over at the #NTC and part take in the Shenanigan's. Just don't be a @DJ Bam

Hello.
I've been to Hawaii twice for air port stops only, on my way to and from Guam. Spent five years on Guam, 1987-1992, while in school because my mom got a teaching job there. Louisiana to Guam was not as shocking a culture change as you'd think. The native people (Chamorros) are like Hawaiians and similar in friendliness to Cajuns. We visited Louisiana every summer. The other 3 years I went through Narita, Japan. Long flights but Japan was awesome!

During one layover stop in Hawaii, we took a bus to the Ala Moana Mall. That's it.

I have several friends from high school who live in Hawaii now.
