Hi Everybody,

Just bought a 2012 Big Red.
First one I've owned.
Bought it cheap as it has transmission troubles.
I like a good challenge.
Revs like crazy and will slowly start moving.
It will get up to speed on flat ground but has no torque.
Would like to hear your thoughts.
Look forward to buzzin' around the farm with it except not today, snowing and cold

Welcome Robbie, if you haven't been lurking for a while you might not have noticed there was a major site upgrade. If during your searches for help with the trans or just reading through and you notice any broken links or missing images let us know.

I remember reading other members had the same issue one was a clutch disc that came apart and got into the engine. I might change the oil and check the oil filter to see if there are any pieces of material on it.

Next I would pick up a BigRed service manual they are about $50. It will tell you how to diagnose different issues and if it's an oil pressure problem, what the pressures should be when measured under different conditions.

Best of luck to you getting it ready for the summer.

Morning guys. Just a little update on what I've found so far. Checked the oil filter and it was clean. Bought the pressure test adapter from the local dealer and first checked the line pressure which feeds the control valve and clutch packs. Pressure would barely register on the gauge at full throttle. Then checked engine oil pressure. Same results.
Next step was to pull off the front cover and oil pump. The oil pump certainly has wear in all 3 sections. New oil pump on order.
I only have one question at this point. Is there anything to check on the torque converter now that it's out?

Good news everybody
Big Red is up and running.
Bad news is, it wasn't the oil pump.
After installing the new pump I still didn't have any oil pressure.
After studying the oil flow schematic, I decided to pull the line off that feeds the oil cooler and crank the engine over with the spark plug out.
All I got was a few spits of oil.
So I ripped the whole engine/tranny out and tore it apart.
First thing I looked at was the oil pickup screen. It was plugged with very fine fibers.
AHA I says to my self, this looks like clutch disc material!
Took the first clutch apart. Nothing left.
Second clutch. Nothing left.
Third clutch. Nothing left and a cracked piston to boot.
Got all my parts from Partsfish.com and put her all back together.
What a difference in pressure when the pump can actually pick up oil!
Couple of lessons learned here:
1. Don't jump to conclusions with out actual proof
2. Don't expect the upper and lower gasket kits to have all you need. They don't include any seals for the clutch packs. Do lots of cross checking before you order.

Since then we have been having a blast with my new toy! Runs like a top and performs well.

P.S. Anybody need a good used oil pump. LOL!
