Often when I start up the P1K5D it will rev pretty high for 3-5 seconds before idling back to normal. Was wondering if this is common with most of them or just peculiar to mine. Been doing it since new.
Define "pretty high". Over 2500 RPM? Mine will start at maybe 1500 rpm for a couple secs then settle in at 1250. It may be a lean condition until the pcm gets it's info and richens the mixture.

Honestly, I have not checked the rpm during those times. But your scenario of 1500 vs 1250 is only a 20% increase. Mine sounds more like 50%+ higher than normal. I will try to notice the next time it happens.

Mine will very rarely rev high for a moment (kept in a semi-conditioned garage) I have noticed when its left out over night if its loaded for a trip or parked at cabin it will rev higher @2000rpm when its cold but only for 10-20seconds then it goes back to normal. If it does it when its warm maybe its a vapor issue (sits for a while and the fuel in the lines gets warm) and it adjusts once the vapor is cleared?

I'll do the same. I've never actually observed start-up RPM. Just remembering how mine starts, I've never noticed anything that would've made me wonder if it was normal. But mine is DEFINITELY not 50% higher rpm at start-up.

That sounds reasonable

Rode around my place some today. The highest it rev'd today was about 1500, which was NOT as high sounding as what I was referring to.

Shot a vid of mine after starting for the first time in 3 weeks. RPMs were at about 1500 for the first two seconds, then settled into 1250 rpm. Now if I could just figure out how to post a vid online!!!!

Don't know if the 1000 is the same way, but the 500/700 cycle the IAC at key on, and if you start the machine quickly, you catch it at a higher idle setting and it will rev up higher than usual for several seconds before settling back to normal.

I'm computer illiterate. I've never posted a Youtube vid. I'll get a co-worker to help me get set up and then I'll post. Thanks!
