Hey there new to the forum. Hoping this forum can help me out as it has been a struggle. Hoping there might be some honda mechanics on here or otherwise.

2020 Talon 1000-x4 LV Recently rebuilt sub-transmission and engine. I got everything back together and it runs and drive good. Clutch relearned. The only issues I have now is that when I'm going uphill or hard on the throttle the clutch temp light will sometimes come and and limit me to first gear only. If i turn the machine off and then back on again it goes away and drives and rides normally again until it comes back.

Any thoughts on this? Like I said it runs and drives great. I am thinking about swapping out the clutch temp sensor but not sure.

By rebuilt the engine, what exactly was done.

Do any codes flash on the dash when the light comes on?

The clutch temperature light does not have its own sensor, it uses data from the oil temperature sensor in the clutch cover to alert you to high oil temperatures in that area. But it will also come on if there is a drive train issue unrelated to temperature, that's why I would watch for codes when the issue arises.

I sent the motor off to rev6 motors. They rebuilt the motor but sounds like they didn't replace any drivetrain components so the clutches weren't replaced nor the EOT sensors or solenoids.

When i first fired it back up I got a shift solenoid code, replaced it and that went away. I then couldn't get the clutch relearn to go through so I went to the dealer and they told me that my problem was likely a bad Power steering Unit so I took it back and replaced the power steering unit. Took it back to the dealer and they said all the codes were gone, power steering torque relearn and clutch relearn both went through.

Got the machine back last week and then I went for a test ride today when the clutch temp light was coming on. Of note this did happen before I took it to the dealer as well. I will take a video of it in the next couple of days.

History of this machine is that it was likely ridden pretty hard, I got it really cheap knowing it needed and engine rebuild and likely some other issues. I feel like I am getting really close to being good to go but just need help getting over the last hump.

The Power Steering has nothing to do with a clutch relearn, so that's fun.

Which solenoid did you replace?

I've seen the PC/Linear solenoid get dirty from lack of maintenance and cause clutch relearns to not take and weird shifting/clutch issues.

Did the unit ever ingest water before the rebuild?

That’s what I was thinking about the power steering unit but it seems to have made a difference so idk.

When I bought this talon I also bought a second one for cheap as well. It was running fine until the motor seized from a rod bearing failure. So while I’ve been working on rebuilding its motor, I have been steeling parts from it to get the other one dialed in.

I swapped out all four solenoids. So they were used solenoids but like I said I wasn’t having a clutch temp light problem on the machine they came from. I didn’t swap out the EOT’s though should I try that? Do you think assembly oil from the rebuild would play a factor? I haven’t changed the oil yet because it hasn’t even been 100 miles yet. I suppose it could be a bad clutch but I don’t feel any slipping at all and I was going very easy on the machine.

Just now seeing this, that code would trigger the clutch light and stop the unit from shifting.

Most likely a bad neutral switch, pretty common.
