Left front wheel seized

I have a 2006 Rancher AT that my FIL got in an estate sale. He let me have it for the kids. I paid to get the motor right and then have gotten the suspension and cosmetic stuff right. Finally got my girl out on it a couple weeks before Christmas. Then tried to go out Christmas Eve but left front wheel was seized. I was able to get it moving. I really have no idea what’s up. I took the wheel off and backed the brake cylinders clear off and removed the outer drum. Cylinders move with brake lever and there’s no mud or rust in there. Axle seems to turn without catching or dragging. I think it was just a brake that maybe rusted.

Any other thoughts on things to check?

Get rid of any rust you can. Grease the cylinders and hub. Clean it all up and put it back together and see what happens.

Yeah.. I’d try cleaning and greasing and just run it a bit then follow the heat.

Man I hate dealing with drum brakes. I agree with the guys, clean it up best you can and see what you got. I’d also consider flushing some fresh fluid through the lines, could’ve gotten moisture in and have rust in there.

How cold was it? My 1st old Suzuki would freeze solid overnight if I had been in any water.

Yeah...mine was the 2wd version of that 300 KQ/250 4wd model they made for years. The drums weren't sealed for s***.

The "kids" machine. I always regretted selling my 94 kq300.

Grease the rubber seal around the drum brake with a silicone grease when putting it back together.
But don't over do it, if the grease gets on the brake shoe it's not good.
For a drum that old it looks really clean.

For a little over $200 u can put a disc brake conversion kit on the front. I did that to 2 of my old racnchers. Easy to do and well worth the money to get rid of those junk ass drum brakes. The brakes was the only issues that I ever had out of 7 Honda atvs I've owned.

It wasn't below freezing and it is stored inside and doesn't freeze either.

I have a 2006 rancher. The break shoes had swollen and were hung. It pissed me off and I did the quad boss disc conversion. They are so much better in every way. I think it was right around 300 bucks for the kit.

What is the difference between the Rancher and Rancher AT? Seems the Rancher is considered a 350 and the AT a 400.

It should fit even with the AT. I put this same 1 on a 2006 rancher 4x4. I put another brand on a 2001 rancher. It was about $300.
