bought my p700-2 back in nov. like the idea of sitting rather than straddling my rubicon. when I bought my 700 dealer wanted me to upgrade the stock battery to a Goldwing battery. is this something that I will have to do? has anyone had battery problems?

Welcome cowboy1, glad to have you here as part of our community. Hope you are enjoying your Pioneer as much as we are.

Upgrading the battery is not required but it is recommended as the OEM is fairly small. The Goldwing has a stronger battery that will replace the OEM.
Now, depending on your preference and how you like to play, a upgrade, dual, or replacement with a car battery may be something to think about in the future. Most all of us agree Honda could of made a better choice. But for the price paid you really cant expect top of the line.

Answer these questions to decide if a replacement battery is in your future.
- Do you like to play in the mud and need to use a winch A LOT?
- Do you plan to install a radio and listen to it with the engine OFF?
- Do you wish to keep the memory wire on the radio hooked up?
- Do you plan to install more then 3 LED lights and run them with the engine OFF?
- Do you plan to install any other electronic accessories?

Then, Yes! A new battery should be in your future.

But, with casual winching, and moderate controlled play time on a radio and leave it running with lights on you will be just fine.

Everyone has a different theory on this and others will chime in shortly.

Hope to see you around.
Thanks.

Welcome to the site, a bigger battery is a good idea if you are going to be installing lights or using a winch the alternator only puts out 450w or 32amps total for everything including the engine electrics.

You'll run the battery down quick. A gold wing battery is not an upgrade its the same capacity 6ah where as a gel cell or AGM battery can range from 12-100ah. For example a group34/35 size (typical truck battery) being in the 35-40ah range.

Hope that helps.

My Valkyrie(cruiser Goldwing) had the exact same battery, because when my Pioneer battery went out I put the Valk battery in, same part number, really convenient. BUT searching for a 2014 battery it is 18ah.

I stand corrected.

I haven't dug under the seat yet. Is there room for a full size battery under there?

Not to take over your thread cowboy, but does the 700 battery sit under the seat stock? Or did you create the space?
On the P5 battery is located behind the rear passenger wheel.
I need more juice and am not sure how to get it. Whether it be tying in another battery and stashing it somewhere or replacing the existing with a bigger one. Not much room where it sits now.

And welcome to the forum cowboy...

thanks for the info ohanacreek and hondasxs. I think I'll look into a bigger battery. If I go bigger battery does anything else have to be changed? I'm really not much of a motorhead.

Just have mount it. The Goldwing battery might fit in place of the original, I'd have to google the sizes and post orientation.

Anything bigger and I'd put it under the drivers seat.
