Being retired from nuclear power, the series was more realistic than I thought it would be. The technical aspects of sickness and the reactor accident were very detailed. Glad the US reactors are built so different and have detailed response plans and exercises, and more added after Fukushima. Designed some decent emergency trucks for response, especially since I could be sent out in one. Double chamber “airlock” style rear doors.

It was a damn good series. A stark reminder of not respecting science and safety protocols. Its a shame that 90,000 people had to die just so they could build the reactor core cheaper than the western hemisphere.

After Fukushima, US Nuclear Industry coordinated a three phase SAFER FLEX program for loss of power event. Phase 2 was Portable Pumps, generators, boron, etc, stored on-site in tornado proof structures. Worked on Phase 3 development of two National Response Centers with each having extra equipment for 5 simultaneous plant events that can be delivered to a plant within 24 hrs. Included helicopter delivery for assuming no road access for 25 miles around plant. Impressive capabilities, but little good news was reported on the US power plant safety upgrades. Germany now can not meet their “Green Carbon targets” after shutting down all nuclear plants, a bad consequence of political knee jerk reactions. USA did it right, IMO...

I finished watching last night and I really liked it... some of the scenes were pretty graphic. Also shows how bad the standard of living was in Russia back and just how far behind us with technology they really were. I know there will be some inaccuracies but I felt the last episode really explained how it all happened including a good overview of how nuclear reactors work.
