Reading my 1000 Owners manual is says to replace the oil filter housing cover O ring at each oil change. I have the filters but no O rings in the packages. Hey Honda why not put them in the package with the filter if you want them changed each service? I have been searching for the part numbers and can't find them. I have everything I need for my 1st service but the O rings. I am sure I could re-use the old ones but you know Murphy's law seams to raise it's head for me often.

they don't include them with the filters so they can charge you $4 each for them when you buy them seperate.

I never changed them on any Honda ATVs or my P700. I just changed the oil in the P1000 and didn't change those o-rings. I'm not recommending you go against what the manual says, but I've never had a problem and I tend to check the oil level often. I think I would also see an oil leak starting to happen before it became a problem.

We've never changed these during services, unless they are leaking. I've worked on 20 year old atvs that still have the original o-rings that dont leak. So imo if you want to spend the extra cash, do it, if not, don't. We do stock these just in case one gets pinched or cut during a service.

I agree. I did buy the orings and the washers for the plugs just to have a set at the shop in case i need them.

My thoughts are the same but if I have them I will never need them but if I don't have them I will need for sure. Thanks for the info.

Now we always replace the crush rings. Spend $2 now or $200 later to have the holes helicoiled.

When you say crush rings your talking about the washers on the drain plugs not the O rings correct?

Yes, the aluminum drain plug washers. Always replace those, cheap insurance against a stripped drain hole.
