I have 2017 1000-5 Limited that was taken out of park by my nephew and rolled backwards into a tree pretty hard. Thankfully everyone is safe and will be looking into Hillbilly emergency brake or something to prevent in the future.

It hit squarely on the passenger side rear roll cage and bent the cage and some of the connection brackets. If I wanted to spend the $700 for new roll cage section I don't think it would ever bolt up.

Secondly, the rear tail light was smashed and the plastic on that portion of the bed is crinkled some. It seems like that whole side of the bed is pushed forward an inch or so. There is no gap in the door and I can't get it open. Nothing looks bent in the frame but can't figure out how that portion of bed is attached to try to realign.

Only thing I can think is try to pull the roll cage back into shape with tractor and chain as my frame puller. Not sure on the bed and getting the door realigned.

Any thoughts? I have it insured not sure if worth taking the hit on the claim.

At first blush, it seems like it may well be worth taking the insurance hit.

If you try pulling things straight with the tractor, unless you first disassemble stuff so you're trying to straighten only one thing at a time, the risk is in doing damage to the structure that the bent part is attached to.

If you want it back to near perfect-insurance. If not, new rear ROPS or straighten existing, new bed hinge, new tail light, heat gun and patience for the corner. To me it looks worse than it really is. Good Luck!
I would like it back to near perfect but use it mostly to run around the property and probably isn't the last time something will happen. I am thinking about trying to pull it back into shape. But what I can't deal with is not being able to open that rear door and dump bed isn't releasing. Any thoughts on how to square the bed up? Nothing looks bent there just feel like it may have got knocked crooked in slot allowance. The hinge doesn't look bent to me.

That’s a pretty good thump there.

I see three options… the other two already stated..(problem with pulling it back is that the pipe is kinked in two locations. )

If you’re never using the rear seats you could always just remove the rear section and either cut the roof or find a 1000-3 roof.

If you find a rear section, likely all youll have to do is pull back the bottom tab gently.

The plastics just use a heat gun and massage them back gently. Might need to pull the plastic off to straighten the metal frame of the bed if it’s bad enough. You could use the other side as your template.

I had to go look at mine, that hinge is part of the bed frame, its got a rail in front and the back of the hinge that's welded, bet it's bent there. A 1/2 inch would create issues with the door. When I first bought ours I had intensions of removing the rear ROPS, even had the 3 seat roof on.

If you've paid for insurance, why not use it?

If you ever go to sell it, a half-azzed repair is going to either make it unsaleable or drastically lower the price. As potential buyers can just look elsewhere.

Couple of reasons I can think of…

Deductible may be higher than the repair…
Overall increase of premiums in future..
it might not be insured.. not everyone has a specific SXS collision policy.

The OP said in his first post, "Any thoughts? I have it insured not sure if worth taking the hit on the claim."

From the limited info and pictures, it is likely the repair costs will be extensive. If the OP has insurance coverage, IMO that's what it is for. If the insurance company hikes the rates because of the claim, then cancel that part of the coverage or shop elsewhere. Liability insurance is relatively inexpensive compared to collision etc., but liability is all that's generally required IF the vehicle is used on state or federal lands, roads, etc. If it's only on private property, then insurance is generally not required.

I bet there is enough damage that insurance would total it. These machines have dropped drastically in value the last yearor so. Just the rear cage is over 2k. If any frame damage it would be totaled for sure.

I agree that is probably the likely case here. Even if there's an insurance deductible, filing the claim and having it repaired or replaced is probably the least expensive way-out long term. In my opinion, it's almost criminal that Honda didn't provide a decent parking brake on these vehicles. I added the Hillbilly brake on mine.

It’s not a Bentley…pull it out with the tractor.
If you take it apart to straighten it, an engine hoist is a wonderful tool to stretch framework back into shape….ask me how I know…

Insured might only mean liability…which is meaningless for damages to your own rig.
