I’m installing an Inferno heater in my P500 and should do sone work to seal around the lower doors to reduce cold air infiltration. I did not find an earlier thread on the topic.

I’m thinking about cutting some sheet foundation insulation for the openings in the door, and using a really thick rubber gasket screws into the sides and bottom.

Anybody done something to help seal up the doors? Any ideas and pictures?

Thanks.

that is a good idea, i had though about just using some thick door gasket material on mine. My biggest leak is where door meets window so is used pipe insulation there. I do not have the cold you have in MT though. I installed a diesel air heater and have it plumbed so i can blow on windshield or floor. Great for hunting as i don not have to run the engine on the SxS.

I’ve looked on amazon and there’s a number of automotive rubber strips that are 1” uncompressed. I need to take measurements.

Is that heater electric?
It doesn’t drain the battery if the engine is off?

I have a rack in my bed it sets on and i keep an automotive batter underneath it. Not sure how long it will run on it but a long time then i charge it back up when back to garage.

As far as door seals, this is how @301 did his 1000 doors, may work for the 500.

Just cut them down the length and slide it over the edge

Love it- as I was told once while duck hunting, “there’s no points for pretty out here, Bill”.

Look online. You can find black pool noodles if you worry about the cosmetics! 😁

I’m going to order this weather stripping on amazon instead. It’s ‘$13.90 for 10 feet and may hold up better in Montana’s winter cold.

What do you use to close the hole in the door? I need to scrounge up some scraps of foundation insulation to try.

I’ll screw it to the doir thru this part.

Installed it today. I used Gorilla max strength adhesive, laid a bead along the door edge. Then I screwed with brass screws through the round portion, and tightened into the molding. I had torq screws which were easier than Phillips head. Just keep the torque setting low on your drill so you don’t go through the base.

It’s pretty tight, definitely can’t just swing the door to close and lock.

I got a piece of white construction insulation foam that was going to be tossed out. Traced the openings in the front doors, and cut out. Glue-in with some construction adhesive, then covered inside and out with 2” strips of black Gorilla duct tape.

Doesn’t look bad, and it keeps the air blowing in.

Took it for a ride, it’s a lot more sealed up than it was. After taping over the reverse lever, under the dash I found the remaining big cold air leak into the cab is the vertical slot on the 2 to 4 wheel drive lever.

That's two of the three... there's another one down by the gas pedal that's a real pita to get to.

Excellent job! I made something similar from some gorilla duct tape doubled over to form a slot, but I like your idea. Is that closed cell foam about 1/8” thick? Any suggestion on where to find sone?

Did you figure out the gas pedal opening?
