@JACKAL, and a buddy and I went riding last weekend and towards the beginning of the day, @JACKAL had a fairly decent sidewall cut. He was cursing along and it hit hard enough to knock the tire off the bead.

@JACKAL was digging out a dozen plugs getting ready to knot them up so we could head back to the truck. Luckily I picked up a pack of these and we gave it a try. It took me about 5 mins to get it installed and we were already airing up.

Since most tire pinches have 2 holes we had to plug the smaller one. Once we did this we were off. I have to say we spent much less time than expected to try and patch with 10+ plugs. We continued the adventure and even a week later it is holding air.

Here is the link to order you one --> Sidewall Slug.

The sidewall slug did the trick and quickly. We covered another 60 miles that day and tire stayed up. In fact its been a week to the day and checked on the damaged tire it still had only leaked halfway down. The cut was approximately 1.5" long big enough to put your thumb in it.

Definitely getting a couple for just in case in parts bag, can easily replace using a few dozen plugs.

Those are sweet! Nice that they are reusable also.

Did you run a little higher pressure to keep the sidewall from flexing as much?

They're not really designed to be reusable.
But If you don't break off bolt/steam I guess it could be.
Here on the east where we ride, you don't need it sticking out more then it has to.

Ran about 15psi, but I always run higher pressure. This was my first tire pinch flat in over 2 years covering 4000 miles of trails.

I don't believe they are reusable as cable holding inner half snaps off with excess bolt threads after installing.

I see it now, I just thought it was a regular bolt holding 2 pieces of plastic/rubber(?) together.

Either way, it's a cool idea. Even on my crawlers, I never liked carrying a spare. So much extra weight and used space. 99% of the tire failures I've seen were plug able, and like you said, running a little higher pressure almost eliminates sidewall failures.

What I’m concerned about is Blackwater EVO sidewall strength. They are supposed to be very strong. The more I see the more I don’t like radial tires.

Totally agree.
If you want sidewall strength. Dont choose radial tires!

I have tusk terrabite kevlar tires. Had them right at a year. On my 3rd replacement due to side wall cuts.

A week too late, gents!

Is there a video of how this works? I mean...it seems obvious how it seals, but what's the little cable looking thing for?

The cable passes through the bolt.
It's used to pull the inner shell in to place when you shove it in the cut.
The other thing is a thick monofiliment line used to rotate the inner shell half to align it with the cut.
Pretty ingenious.

It's funny...I was sitting around brainstorming some way to "plate" a big cut on the trail...and here it is.

I bet he was cursing more AFTER it happened than BEFORE it happened. 😆
