Did nearly the exact same thing as @CumminsPusher did and hit a water hole at about 35 mph and killed it. Engine shut off right away, ashamed to say I got towed out of the hole by a Polaris 1000 atv. Once I got it up on dry land we pulled the plugs and turned it over until no more water came out of the exhaust pipe. Put it back together and left the intake hose disconnected to keep from sucking more water into the motor. It fired up, dumped about 2 quarts of water out the tail pipe and I limped it back 16 miles back to the truck. Oil is the color of Ovaltine but no knocking or ticking. Time for a full fluid flush and snorkel I suppose!

First and only. I hit that same hole last year with my Polaris and it was only half as deep then. I would definitely say I got lucky!

polaris intake is different location.
You may have been ok because it was just one. We had been playing in the water all day and I suspect we added a little each time. Our puddle wasn't near that size. I'm really glad it's ok!!!

Since its running just run cheap through it several times and fill back up good. I'm sure you're ok but flush fast so water doesn't start rusting crap up inside. I really am glad this turned out for the best. Btw I love the big window decal! Should have pulled it off while the other thing was pulling you:)

It was a Sportsman to boot. Extremely fortunate that it survived. I'll flush it out tonight. I didn't even think about rust.

And a Sportsman! Grrrr. You just killed me a bit inside! Hours before mine took on water our Sportsman took its last breath with original motor at 2600 miles. Had it not I still wouldn't have towed it home with the popo. At least he only pulled you out and you made it back under power:)

Exactly! It did run back under its own power! Lol. I had a Sportsman 850xp with nearly 4k miles. Sounded like marbles rattling around in it though the valves wee so loose

Was hoping to make it past the 500 mile mark at least before I had it apart this far, but here we are. 2 oil changes later she runs fine and the oil is clear again. Lucky we escaped serious damage. Next is a date with the awesome cleaner and a power washer.

Thanks! Looking at the pics, any body have an opinion on if water got into the subframe or diff's?
