There's no oil pump in the sub trans, it's essentially a transfer case. Splash lubricated gears.

I use my Talon strictly for short course racing in Texas. 10w30 motor oil is water on a summer day BEFORE I even run it and the subtrans is a known weak link. Having extra protection with a thicker fluid is key to its longevity in my opinion.

I also run Heavyweight Shockproof in the diffs even though a thinner oil is specified in the manual.

I can see in your application, just wasn't sure under the normal usage would need heavier oil.

Why don't ya try adjusting your shift cables before you assume the oil is junk.

If you live in a colder climate, heavier fluids in the subtrans can lead to issues moving into / out gears, I've read...

Trying to avoid all the sub trans issues- engine oil in a transfer case is a weird choice for Honda!

They also run 10W30 in their scooter final drives.

all these worried posts about engine oil in a t-case.
for starters the viscosity of the two are very close the 10/40 vs 80/90,
second toyota has been tuning motor oil in the t-case sense the early 90's. I sold my 93 with well over 600K and it only ever saw Napa 10/40 engine oil.
