When it comes to buying a new side by side or ATV many dealers know that these units will be in high demand. As the stock begins to hit dealers many buyers flock to these dealers to see the Pioneer in person. This positions the dealers in thinking they run the pricing game. However this is far from the case as we have put together a short list of buying tips that could save you some money.
Tip 1 - Shop around.
Never buy from the first place stop in at. You should always call around. We even recommend calling 2 our of stat dealers within driving distance to see what they offer. You could find that a 4 hour drive may save you $1000.
Tip 2 - Pricing.
Did you know that Honda has a "minimal pricing policy" this means that dealers can not advertise a price lower then MSRP. Now read that again, it says ADVERTISE... not SALE. This means that even though a dealer has it listed at MSRP they are not required to sell at MSRP. Don't be afraid to make the dealer a offer $200-$300 less then there offer. Sure most will say no. but what if they say YES or meet you in the middle.
Tip 3 - Destination Charges.
What is this dest charge anyways? If you ask the dealer, it is a charge that Honda places on the dealers for delivery or some other "BS". Yep... BS.. cause that's all it is. Your dealer may tell you that Honda forces them to charge this dest. fee, but that is far from the truth. I can name 5 dealers right now that will NEVER charge this fee! That's because it is just that.. BS. Don't be-leave me.. call around and ask for your self.
Tip 4 - Out of State sale Tax Free... or NOT.
Now above we said to price out of stat dealers. Be weary as many will of those dealers will mention it being "tax free" because you are "out of state". They use this as a tactic to get you to buy from them. There are many issues with this. 1. this does not apply if you buy in person at the "out of state" dealerships location. The dealer must deliver it to you across the state line for it to apply. 2. Your state requires you to pay the sales and use tax so you are not really saving anything. 3. You have now broken the law. Not only will you get a bill for the tax you will get a hefty fine too. We recommend consulting your CPA or tax professional before falling for this "trick".
Tip 5 - Ask for free stuff.
Don't be afraid to ask for some free stuff. You just spend 12 grand with them. They can at least throw in a free helmet, a pair of gloves, or anything else you see of small value. You be surprised what a dealer will do to close the sale.
Tip 6 - Accessories.
Are you getting any accessories with your new Pioneer? Demand they be installed. Come on, You really think it cost the dealer $60 a hour for shop work? You will find they will do it just to close the sale.
Most of these tips are from personal experience with ATV dealers and car dealers. Sure, I would not try them all on the same dealer but if only 1 works then you come out a winner. Good Luck.
