Talon Took the Talon R to Glamis last weekend.

Drove from Phoenix to Abernathy's in Union City, TN to buy my Talon. Brought it home, built a custom power connect system to take all the accessories, added a single row light bar, 4 point harnesses w/ seatbelt override switch, aluminum side mirrors with forward facing LED's, rear view mirror, some side floods, rock lights and a switch panel from XTC. I appreciated the winch power supplied from the battery box for sure. Picked up some 29" Sand Strippers front and rear on 14" GMZ rims. Used a 1" spacer and had zero clearance issues. My SuperATV cooler/cargo box arrived when I got back and I mounted it up last night. I was back and forth between that and a yeti cooler with the custom mounts I've seen out there, but the lack of visibility over those taller coolers ultimately helped my decision.

As for performance, I love how planted it felt. After about 3 hours in the saddle I was REALLY comfortable due to the predictability. I adjusted shocks to medium in the front and firm in the rear. I still got a bit of bucking in the whoops, but it eliminated the bottoming out in the G-outs. I had plenty of power everywhere EXCEPT for OLDS and the steeper section of China Wall. I have run CanAM X3 XRS Turbo and I prefer the handling and visibility of the Talon all day long. Definitely could use the extra power though up the hills. I am eyeing the turbo options out there, but I am cautiously monitoring the various "technical hurdles" of such a new product.

I was out the door at $17,864 with the machine, so the $$ on a turbo doesn't hurt that bad considering what a comparable machine from the the big 2 would set me back.. AND I have a Honda. I only saw one other Talon at the dunes over President's Day weekend and that's a pretty cool feeling. Knowing that I'll never be under the machine in the sand changing a toasted belt gives me the warm fuzzies.

I had a X3 and completely agree on the poor visibility. It made too much of Glamis like flying blind. Watching to see how the Talons hold up with the turbo before I pull the trigger.

Very Clean wiring I like that. I can't wait to go back to Glamis with some paddles my Terrabites worked OK but you need paddles for sure. I am looking for some reasonably priced 15" to put on my stock wheels, I have spent so much money on this contraption I need to save a bit if possible on paddles because I won't use them much.

I bought my wheels and tires off a Polaris owner. I found 1" adapters (4/156 to 4/137) for $125 and his 14" mounted right up. I Paid $200 for front and rears. He went turbo and moved up to 30" Scats. I am cheap too and I can smell a deal a mile away.

Brought my TalonR out to Glamis over PDW too! I def feel the same about the visibility and handling. Where were you camped? We were on pad 2 and there was a red R like one camp over. Was that you? I thought the talon did quite well in the dunes. I picked up a set of 31” system3 paddles (price was right) for the stock wheels. Was a little overpaddled though IMO. Overall was a good trip. Nice write up on your build so far.

We started camping at wash 21. It's waaay out there but there's virtually no traffic on busy weekends and we don't have to listen to anyone elses music.

The red talon I saw was on the tracks side of the wash road. 31" does seem a little big. But like you said, if the price is right. Has the green grown on you yet?

We'll be out again over the weekend of March 20th.

Nice, We’ve spent some time in the washes over the years but we’ve always camped out on gecko rd.

I could definitely tell the big paddles stole some power. If there aren’t more options for the 15” wheels by next season I’m going to switch to 14’s w spacers if necessary.

The green has certainly grown on me!

If you had a turbo would the tires work out? I was thinking about trying the 30" Pro Armors they seem heavy but cheap. I am not going to use them much so I don't want to spend more than I have to.

I was split between the pro armors and the system3’s, both are relatively heavy compared to a buffed setup like scats or sandcraft. but specs showed the system3 were a little lighter and a few bucks cheaper so I went that route. I bet either wouldve be a pretty awesome setup if I had a turbo

Have you guys thought about the system 3 ss360?

I'm interested in them for snow and sand, the multiple reviews I've read said they can keep up OK with paddles in a drag race, but are way more fun if you're out carving dunes.

They make 32x10x15, 32x12x15, 30x10x14 and the 30x12x14. I'm sure the talon would be more happy with the 30s but since they aren't an actual paddle the 32s may be ok.
